Wade Robert Scharfenberg, 72, of Cuba, passed away peacefully in his sleep, onTuesday, October 27, 2026, in the comfort of his home.
On October 5, 1954, Wade was born to the union of Roy Scharfenberg Sr. & MonettaScharfenberg (Newbanks) in Washington, Missouri.
Wade attended grade school at Neier Catholic School in Union, Missouri and laterattended Union High School.
On October 28, 1983, Wade was united in marriage to Rebecca “Becky” Hoff in Union,Missouri.
Wade devoted most of his life to farming. He worked as a young child on the family farm in Union and later his own farm after Becky and him came to Cuba, Missouri. Wade’s farm consisted of all the farm animals you could think of, his family says, “you name the farm animal and we’ve probably had at least one at some point”. While farming with his dad, he worked for 30 years at Maverick as a machine operator and during layoff season, he would work construction to make ends meet. Wade was no stranger to hard work and never backed away from the difficulties that came into life.
Wade was a member and past deacon of Calvary Baptist Church in Bourbon, Missouri. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, especially in his younger years he enjoyed coon hunting and fishing on the Bourbeuse River. Wade also loved to train horses in his youth, teaching them how to be used as work horses and as teams to pull wagons.
Wade had the opportunity one Christmas to pull a wagon through downtown Union to afford people the opportunity to take an old-time ride around town. He never met a stranger and never had trouble being social and striking up a conversation with anyone he met. Later in life, Wade enjoyed quality time with his family and friends and playing computer games. Most of all, aside from time with his family, he loved spoiling his granddaughter, Aubrey. Wade will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Wade was preceded in death by his parents, Roy (Monetta) Scharfenberg Sr.; siblings, Roy Scharfenberg Jr., Danny Schafenberg, William “Billy” Scharfenberg, Edward Scharfenberg & Mark Scharfenberg.
He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Rebecca “Becky” Scharfenberg of Cuba; one son, Buddy (Rebecca) Scharfenberg of Cuba; one granddaughter, Aubrey of Cuba; one brother, Richard Scharfenberg, many nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.
A memorial visitation for Wade will be held on Saturday, October 31, 2026, from 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. at the Calvary Baptist Church in Bourbon, Missouri. A memorial service will follow at 3:00 P.M. with a dinner to follow.
