Thelma L. Wenzel of Bourbon, Missouri, was born on June 25, 1926, in Eureka, Missouri. She peacefully departed this life on Saturday, April 18, 2026, just days shy of her 100th birthday, leaving behind a legacy of love and dedication at the age of 99.
On July 25, 1948, Thelma was united in marriage to Ernest J. Wenzel in Bourbon, Missouri. Together, they were blessed with eight cherished children: Kenny, Karen, Jimmy, Shirley, Sue, Ronnie, Gary, and Bobby. Her life was devoted to nurturing her family, supporting Ernest on their dairy farm, and contributing to the community through her work as an examiner at Paramount Apparel.
Thelma found joy in gardening, embroidery, word search puzzles, and delighting in the company of her children and grandchildren. Her warm spirit and generous heart touched the lives of all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Luther and Pearl (Schmelz) Miller; her husband, Ernest J. Wenzel; three sons, Bobby, Ronnie, and Gary Wenzel; as well as a sister Augusta Butler and one infant brother.
Those left to treasure her memory include five devoted children: Kenny Wenzel of Bourbon, Karen Wenzel of Bourbon, Jimmy (Ann) Wenzel of Leasburg, Shirley Peterson of Sullivan, and Sue Wenzel of Bourbon; ten grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews; and countless friends who hold her close in their hearts.
A visitation to honor Thelma’s remarkable life will be held on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. at Mizell Funeral Home & Crematory, with Pastor Scott Perry officiating.
Following the service, interment will take place at Lick Creek Cemetery in Cuba, Missouri.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Halo for Animals, P.O. Box 735, Sullivan, Missouri 63080, or online at www.haloforanimals.com.
The Mizell Funeral Home & Crematory is humbled and honored to serve the family of Thelma L. Wenzel during this time. Her memory will forever be a blessing to all who knew her.
