Sylvia Jean Hartwick

October 14, 1935 — December 17, 2020

Sylvia Jean Hartwick nee Kosfeld of Bourbon, Missouri was born on October 14, 1935 in the family home at Cuba, MO to the union of Martin L. Kosfeld and Gertrude C. Kosfeld nee Siemens. She passed away on Thursday, December 17, 2020 at Life Care Center of Sullivan at the age of 85.

Sylvia was united in marriage to Ivan P. Hartwick on June 16, 1956 and to this union three children were born: Dennis, David and Annette.

Sylvia was a lifetime resident of Crawford County, with most of her years spent in Bourbon, MO where she was a homemaker. She was an active member of the Bourbon Seventh-day Adventist Church into which she was baptized on September 6, 1952, serving in many offices and taking on various responsibilities throughout the years. She had a beautiful singing voice, winning a 1 rating in Girls High Voice at the Central Missouri District Competition at Rolla on March 30, 1951 and an Honor Rating 2 at the University of Missouri Columbia's Missouri Interscholastic Meet - Music Festival on April 28, 1951. Through the years she sang solos, sang in duets and trios for church services and other local programs.

She was preceded in death by her parents Martin & Gertrude Kosfeld, three brothers Martin Kosfeld, Milton Kosfeld and Larry Kosfeld, and two sisters Ruth Kosfeld and Alice Woodruff and one sister-in-law Jean Kosfeld.

Those who are left to treasure her memory and to continue her legacy are her loving husband Ivan Hartwick of Bourbon and three adult children, Dennis Hartwick and wife LaDonna of Bourbon, David Hartwick of Bourbon and Annette Sammons and husband Mike of Venice, Florida. She has three sisters-in-law, Chris Kosfeld of Mont Alto, PA, Nelda Kosfeld of Glendale, AZ and Edna Bawolek of Hubertus, WI. She has six granddaughters Erica Hartwick of Bourbon, Andrea Strothcamp and husband, Jacob of Bourbon, Larisa, Alanna and Ariel Sammons of Florida and two great grandchildren, Drawe Froning and Luna Wagner. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Sylvia is remembered for her pleasant smile and contagious laughter. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother and good friend to all who knew her. She will be sadly missed.

It was Sylvia's request to have a private burial at the Bourbon Cemetery.

A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held on Saturday, May 15, 2021, beginning at 3:00 p.m. at the Bourbon Seventh Day Adventist Church 750 N. Old Hwy. 66, Bourbon, Missouri.

Memorials may be given to the Bourbon Seventh-day Adventist Church or a charity of your choice.
