Samuel P.m. "Sam" Starks

September 15, 1954 — July 13, 2021

Samuel P. M. “Sammy” Starks of Cuba, Missouri was born on September 15, 1954 in Steelville, Missouri to the union of Earl and Eleanor Starks. He left from this life on Tuesday, July 13, 2021 at Kindred Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri at the age of 66 years

Sam left high school early to join the United States Navy, serving aboard the aircraft carrier USS America. After leaving the Navy, he worked several years as a department foreman for Brown Shoe Company, and later worked as a carpenter in St. Louis before going to work for BNSF Railroad, where he was employed until he became physically disabled.

Sam enjoyed hunting and fishing before he became disabled, but his true passion was music. He was an accomplished guitarist and began playing in bands when he was 15. He played in several bands over the years and enjoyed playing both country and rock music, he was always ready for a jam session with fellow musicians. Sam enjoyed a good conversation and looked forward to meeting new people and making new friends. He was a proud member of Cuba VFW Post No. 7147.

Sam is preceded in death by his parents Earl and Eleanor Starks; one son Cody Starks: sister Sharon Starks-White; brother Lonnie Chandler and an infant sister; Grandparents Purl and Ella Richards and Robert and Bertha Starks: nephew Lonnie Chandler and brother-in-law Noel Hammock.

Those who are left to treasure his memory and to continue his legacy are his son Cole Starks of Florida; two brothers Mike (Debbie) Starks and Mitch (Christie) Starks all of Cuba; one sister Cindy Hammock of Steelville; step-mother Terry Scott of Steelville; one sister-in-law Judy Chandler of Lehigh Acres, Florida; step-daughter Dawn Stoner of Kansas City; Uncle Lloyd and Aunt Roberta Richards of St. James, Aunt Irene Richards of Steelville; nieces, nephews, great nieces great-nephews, cousins and many friends.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 15, 2021 from 5-8 p.m. at Mizell Funeral Home 904 W. Washington St. Cuba, Missouri.

Funeral Service will be held on Friday, July 16, 2021 10:00 a.m. at Mizell Funeral Home with Pastor Bob Coleman, officiating.

Interment will follow at Steelville Cemetery, Steelville, Missouri.

The Mizell Funeral Home of Cuba is honored to be serving the Starks family.
