Ruth A. Hendrickson

Ruth A. Hendrickson of Owensville, Missouri was born on January 16, 1930 to Omar and

Gertrude (nee Howard) Spurgeon and passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at the age of 94

years.

She married D. Ervin Hendrickson on June 5, 1948.

Ruth and Erv lived in Cuba, Missouri on the corner of Hickory and Fair across from the old

fairgrounds for over 50 years. Each year during the county fair, friends and family would show

up to have a prime parking spot in their yard.

She enjoyed fishing on Brush Creek near the home place and would move from bridge to

bridge depending on where the fish were biting.

Ruth took pride in her yard, always planting flowers and bushes. She loved to feed the birds

and kept two feeders just outside the front window of the house so she could watch them.

Every year for over 50 years Ruth and Erv purchased a new car, usually a Pontiac, with the

last 38 vehicles being purchased from Modern Garage in Sullivan, Missouri. They also

purchased a new GMC truck each year for 17 years.

She made bologna salad and tuna salad with the famous lime pickles at least twice a year for

the family and friends during Joy’s 20 family yard sale. Brownies and ice cream cookies were

made for special occasions and Christmas.

After Erv passed she built a house next to Joy and Ray and her basement became the place

where she helped Joy paint crafts.

She enjoyed visits from Bernie and Jack or as she called them “grandma’s dogs.”

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ervin Hendrickson; sister, Francis Sutter and

husband Charles; brothers, Jim Spurgeon, Gene Spurgeon and Don Spurgeon and wife Nancy;

brother-in-law, Eldro Hendrickson and wife Irene; and sister-in-law, Celesta Spurgeon and

husband Granville.

She is survived by her daughter, Joy Brandenburger and husband Ray Brandenburger of

Owensville, Missouri; granddaughter, Tracy Brandenburger Miller and husband Joe Miller of

Owensville, Missouri; sister-in-law, Betty Spurgeon of Cuba, Missouri; nieces and nephews,
