Roy Albert Scharfenberg Jr.

February 7, 1947 — May 26, 2021

Roy Albert Scharfenberg, Jr. of Cuba, Missouri was born on Friday, February 7, 1947, in Washington, Missouri to the union of Roy A. and Monetta M. (Newbanks) Scharfenberg, Sr. He left from this life on Wednesday, May 26, 2021, at Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan, Missouri at the age of 74 years.

Roy honorably served his country in United States Army during the Vietnam War. He came home a decorated war vet with stories that only those who served alongside him could fully understand. It is not surprising, that he became a lifetime member of the Cuba V.F.W. Post #7147 and the D.A.V. #65. These men were the survivors…they had made it home but never lost the memories. They became family to Roy and many hours were spent together enjoying the camaraderie of men who understood him, for they too had their stories to tell. They are our great American heroes.

Roy was hired on at J.C. George's Sawmill in St. Clair, Missouri, as a repairman and mechanic. He worked for this company until his retirement when he finally traded in a time clock and working every day, to spend time outdoors and take in a little bit of hunting and fishing. However, Roy never got away from being that mechanic that had earned him his retirement. Those who knew him know that he enjoyed farming, and working on his pride and joy, his tractors.

Roy is preceded in death by his parents and three brothers Edward, Mark, and William Scharfenberg.

Those who are left to treasure his memory and to continue his legacy are his five children Melissa and husband David Sowrheaver of Washington, Missouri, Roy and wife Amanda Scharfenberg of Texas, Sharon and husband CJ Clendenin of Georgia, Debra and spouse Jo Reed of Chamois, Missouri, Katherine Reed of Texas; three brothers Daniel Scharfenberg of Washington, Missouri, Richard Scharfenberg of Union, Missouri, Wade and wife Rebecca Scharfenberg of Cuba, Missouri; fourteen grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and many friends.

In keeping with his wishes, Roy will be cremated.

A V.F.W. Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 5, 2021, 2:00 p.m. at the Cuba V.F.W. Post #7147 704 E. Washington St. Cuba, Missouri. Full Military Honors will conclude the service.

The Mizell Funeral Home of Cuba is honored to be serving the Scharfenberg family.
