Robert John "Bob" Enke

July 8, 1939 — June 17, 2021

Robert John” Bob” Enke of Cuba, Missouri was born on July 8, 1939, in St. Louis, Missouri to the union Fred and Lillian Caroline (Reznak) Enke. He left from this life on Thursday, June 17, 2021, at his home at the age of 81 years.

As a young boy, he attended Bailey School and began his formal education. But what Bob genuinely loved was being outdoors. As he grew older, he learned how to hunt and fish and spent many hours walking in the woods or sitting on a creek bank dropping a line in the water anticipating the ‘big catch!”. These were his lifelong hobbies and the best of times for Bob. As with all young men Bob learned that life was not just about hobbies and fun times as he wiped a good deal of sweat on those hot summer days, helping his father with hay bailing several years and then working as a farm hand for a short time.

It was while working as a farm hand that he made his best lifetime decision when he met and married Shirley M. Jones on November 2, 1957. From the words “I Do” until the time of his passing they had celebrated 63 years of marriage! They made their home in Cuba and it was the place they called home for all their married life. and where all three of their children were born.

Shortly after marriage Robert started working in the construction industry. Building roads, bridges, missile silos, laying sod or whatever the job called for. He worked in construction for 37 years until his retirement.

Robert is preceded in death by his parents; two infant sisters, one infant son Kenneth Louis Enke, one brother-in-law Doy Jones, Jr. and a special aunt Mamie Charles.

Those who are left to treasure his memory and to continue his legacy are his loving wife of sixty-three years Shirley M. (Jones) Enke of the home; two children Karen Hignett of Silsbee, Texas, Steven W., and wife Cheryl Enke of Cuba; three grandchildren J.R. Hignett of Silsbee, Texas, Nevaeh and Triniti Enke both of Cuba; one sister-in-law Irene Jones of Rosati; nieces, nephews, and many friends.
