Richard Greathouse of Cuba, Missouri was born Friday, March 9, 1934 at St. Louis, Missouri to the union of Charles and Birdie Greathouse and he left from this life on Monday, July 30, 2018, at his home, in Cuba at the age of 84 years. Richard proudly served in the United States Air Force from March 1952 till March 1962. He served during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. He earned the National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Good Conduct Medal with 2 Loops and the Air Force Longevity Service Award with 1 Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster. Rich left the United States Air Force as a SSGT. Richard was united in marriage to Sadie M. Garcia and they were the proud parents of Debbie, Ricky and Larry. After the service, Rich went to work for McDonnell Douglas (Boeing) and he retired after nearly thirty years of dedicated service in 1995. Rich was the Supply Support Specialist, Fighters Aircraft Division. He got to travel to Malaysia, Morocco and California where he met the Blue Angels while working for McDonnell Douglas. After Rich and Sadie moved to Cuba, he went to work at Mace's Grocery Store. Rich enjoyed working on the ads and in the liquor department for the store. He spent his life working, but he did enjoy playing poker, softball, racquetball and barbequing ribs. Rich was a lifetime fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. He was a loving son, brother, husband, father, brother-in-law, uncle, and friend of everyone. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him. Rich is preceded in death by his parents Charles and Birdie Greathouse, his loving wife Sadie Greathouse, three brothers; Roy, Charles and Howard Greathouse, brother-in-law Sonny Garcia, sister-in-law Fannie and other family and friends. Those who are left to treasure his memory and to continue his legacy are his loving children; Debbie and husband Marty Voss of St. Charles, Missouri, Ricky Greathouse of Cuba and Larry and Cheryl Greathouse of Washington, Missouri, brother-in-law Phil Garcia of Ogden, Utah and a host of other relatives and friends. A Memorial Service will be 2:00 pm Friday, August 3, 2018 at the Mizell Funeral Home, 904 W Washington Street, Cuba followed by full military honors. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to DAV, VFW or the American Legion in Rich's memory. In keeping with Rich's wishes, he will be cremated. The Mizell Funeral Home of Cuba is honored to be serving the Greathouse family.
