Raymond E. "Ray" Plank of Cuba, Missouri, was born on September 26, 1939, in Wesco, Missouri, to George W. and Anna B. (Broyles) Plank. He peacefully departed this life on Monday, July 28, 2025, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, at the age of 85.
Ray was united in marriage to Margaret A. "Marge" Plank on August 26, 1967, in Steelville, Missouri. Together, they shared a life filled with love and service to their community.
Throughout his career, Ray held various positions that reflected his dedication to service and hard work. He worked at Brown and Sons IGA and served diligently as a Deputy and Dispatcher for the Crawford County Sheriff's Department. Additionally, Ray contributed significantly to the community as a firefighter and later became the Chief of the Cuba Volunteer Fire Department. He and Marge also owned and operated Ozark Ice Cream in Cuba, where they created many fond memories.
A devoted member of the Calvary Assembly of God Church, Ray was known for his sharp wit and humor. His perspective and thoughts often graced the pages of the Cuba Free Press, and during trips to St. Louis, he cherished stopping at White Castle.
Ray is preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Margaret A. "Marge" Plank; one sister, Vergie Mae Shults; one brother, Gary Plank; two brothers-in-law, Robert Veach and Dean Miller; and one sister-in-law, Dorothy Veach.
He is survived by his three children, Debbie (Bill Cason) Horsefield, Mike (Linda) Plank, and Kevin Plank, all of Cuba; seven grandchildren, Jeremy Horsefield and Liz Alsop, Tiffany (Mike) Zerr, Kathryn Coatney, Brandon (Janna) Plank, Miles Plank, Kaleb (Melanie) Cason, and Eli Cason; eight great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Wren, Silas, Kynlee, Adalynn, Grayson, Nathan, and Charlotte; three sisters-in-law, Betty Miller of Cuba, Kathy (Larry) Skyles of St. James, and Kathryn Veach of Cuba; as well as a brother-in-law, John Veach of Steelville, along with numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and many friends.
In honoring his wishes, Ray will be cremated. A celebration of life service will be announced at a later date.
