Norman Joseph Deleo

Norman Joseph DeLeo of Cuba, Missouri was born at Staten Island, New York on Thursday, December 1, 1932 to the union of Joseph Thomas and Helen Hedwig (Von Homs Somems) DeLeo. He left from this life peacefully on Friday, August 11, 2017 at his home at the age of 84 years. During Norman's early childhood, the DeLeo family moved from New York to Porterville, Missouri, then to California, Missouri and eventually they settled in Cuba, Missouri. Norman attended grade school at Holy Cross School thru the eighth grade, one year at Cuba high school, before finishing the last three years of high school at Subiaco Academy in Arkansas. After high school, he graduated in 1957 from St. Louis University with a degree in Dentistry. Upon graduating college, Norman enlisted in the United States Army. He served seven years in the 82nd Airborne Division, reaching the rank of Captain. After the service, he moved his family back to Cuba, Missouri and opened a dental practice. Looking for a new adventure, he decided to leave dentistry and he purchased a local beer distributorship, thus began DeLeo Distributing. He was elected President to the Missouri Beer Wholesalers' Association and received an award for his article on alcohol abuse. After selling DeLeo Distributing, he eventually became an Economic Adviser to the City of Cuba and served as the Director of the Industrial Development Authority. Also during this time, Norman served as an advisor to Missouri State Economic Board. An active member of the community, Norman served on the Chamber of Commerce, MRPC and numerous other boards and committees. In his spare time, he enjoyed golf, hunting, scuba diving, traveling and being the pilot on an airplane. Norman is preceded in death by his parents Joseph Thomas and Helen Hedwig (Von Homs Somems) DeLeo; one sister Heidi Jones. Those who left to treasure his memory and to continue his legacy are his loving wife of 62 years Betty L. DeLeo of the home; one daughter Kim and husband Dennis Roedemeier of Cuba, Missouri; two sons Mark and wife Cindy DeLeo of Jupiter, Florida; Matt and wife Amy DeLeo of Sullivan, Missouri; ten grandchildren Jenn and husband Brian Dickey of St. Louis, Missouri, Dan and wife Gayle Roedemeier of St. Louis, Missouri, Jennifer Bright of Cuba, Missouri, Lindsay and husband Jeff Fieser of Cuba, Missouri, Joshua and wife Natalie Roedemeier of St. Louis, Missouri, Ashley Roedemeier of St. Louis, Missouri, Madisyn DeLeo of Jupiter, Florida, Matt, Victoria and Alexandria DeLeo all of Sullivan, Missouri; one sister Yoma Clewes of Riverside, California; eleven great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and many friends. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 14, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church 415 W. School Ave. Cuba, Missouri. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, August 14, 2017 11:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church with Rev. Rich Boever as the celebrant. Interment with full military honors will follow at Kinder Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri. If desired, memorials would be appreciated to Holy Cross School or the Crawford County Historical Society. The Mizell Funeral Home is honored to be serving the DeLeo family.
