Nina Giles Reed was born May 8, 1924 at Neosho, Missouri to Paul and Minnie (Nee: Richards) Giles and was raised on the family farm in Racine, Missouri. She spent most of her adult life in Neosho, Missouri. When keeping her home got to be too much for her, she moved to Cuba, Missouri to be closer to her son George. She left from this life on Friday, November 21, 2014 at Cuba, Missouri at the age of 90 years. Nina graduated from Neosho High School in 1943 and went to work during WWII at Camp Crowder in Neosho in the finance department. Also during WWII, she had the grand adventure of moving to Washington, D.C. to work in finance to help the war effort. On June 2, 1946, she married Joseph Ben Reed and to this union one son, George Stephen Reed was born. Over the years in Neosho, Nina worked as a secretary in law offices, at Beck's Florist, in a health food store and did clerical work in the local hospital. Nina enjoyed going to lunch with friends, working in the yard and arranging flowers. In later years while working at the health store, she liked reading about various herbs and usually had a suggestion of what herb would help what ailed you. She spent time visiting with her brothers, sisters and her father who still lived in Racine in a self-built log cabin. The family would plan reunion picnic on his eighty acres. She periodically traveled to the state of Oregon to visit her mother, a sister and brothers who lived there. Nina was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, sister-in-law, aunt, great aunt, cousin and friend of many. She will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her. Nina is preceded in death by her parents Paul and Minnie Giles, her sisters Virginia Grasher and Alice Giles, brothers Arthur, Frank, Edward, Joe and Jimmy. Those who are left to treasure her memory and to continue her legacy are her son George and wife Jane Reed of Cuba, Missouri, one brother John and wife Dorothy Giles of Joplin, Missouri, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held from 12 Noon till 1:00 PM Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at the Clark Funeral Home, 312 S. Wood, Neosho, Missouri. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at the Clark Funeral Home in Neosho, Missouri with Ralph Walker officiating. Special music will be "Amazing Grace", The Old Rugged Cross" and "In the Garden". Memorial contributions may be made, in lieu of flowers, to the Belfast Cemetery in Nina's memory. Interment and prayers will follow at the Belfast Cemetery, Neosho, Missouri. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Mizell Funeral Home of Cuba and Clark Funeral Home in Neosho, Missouri.
