Nannie J. King

August 18, 1917 — January 28, 2017

Nannie J. King (nee: Ray) of Leasburg, Missouri was born on Saturday, August 18, 1917 at Leasburg, Missouri to the union of James Franklin & Alice Betsy (nee Halbert) Ray and went to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 28, 2017, at Life Care Center, Sullivan, Missouri at the age of 99 years, 5 months, and 10 days. Nannie married Dock Walton King on May 20, 1935, in Potosi, MO, and they became parents to a total of 11 children. Mrs. King lived most of her life in Leasburg, MO. She retired from Fashion Shoe/Meramec Industries on June 1, 1983, as a master shoe trimmer. Even though she had reached her 99th birthday, life was all too short for Nannie. She had been looking forward to her Centenary celebration. Her beloved Dr. Modad had told her that he would attend her 100th Birthday Party, and she was excited at the thought of seeing him! She was, however, also eager to see the Lord and her family that had gone on before her. She loved being mom and spoiling her boys. In her spare time she enjoyed fishing, boating, word search and jig saw puzzles, exercising, quilting and flower gardening. Nannie was preceded in death by her parents, James and Alice Ray; her husband, Dock King; one son, Melbourne Walton King and three infant children; one grandson, Richie King; one great-grandson Christian West; four brothers, Wilbur Donald "Barney" Ray, William Roberta "Bert" Ray, James Howard Ray, and Leonard Morris Ray; and two sisters, Velma Fife (nee Ray) and Mary Alice Land (nee Ray). Those who are left to treasure her memory and to continue her legacy are her seven sons, Jerry (Joan) King of Bourbon, Jim (Linda) King of Leasburg, Buddy (Terry) King of Bourbon, Richard (Becky) King of Sullivan, William (Cindy) King of Cuba, Bruce (Julie) King of Leasburg, and Brent (Denice) King of Leasburg; one brother, Charles Curtis Ray of Leasburg; two sisters, Mildred Lucille (Sylvester) Westrich of St. Ann, and Gertrude Gladeen White of Tennessee; 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; cousins; nieces and nephews; and many friends. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at Mizell Funeral Home 904 W. Washington St. Cuba, MO.
