Mathilda 'Tillie' C. Harris

Mathilda C. "Tillie" Harris of Cuba, Missouri was born May 6, 1923 at Duisburg, Germany to the union of Ludwig and Emma M (Riechmann) Sudmeyer and left from this life on Friday, September 25, 2015 at the Missouri Baptist Medical Center in St. Louis, Missouri at the, young of heart, age of 92 years. Tillie moved to the United States from Germany, with her mother, at the age of three. Tillie was united in marriage to John H. Harris on October 16, 1941 at the Emmaus Lutheran Church, St. Louis, Missouri. They enjoyed nearly fifty seven years of marriage before John left from this life suddenly on April 24, 1998. Tillie graduated from high school in 1941 and shortly after started working for Purina. She was the treasure manager of the Purina Credit Union when she retired after twenty five years of dedicated service. In the late sixty's Tillie and John moved to Cuba and purchased a rock home on Highway O. Tillie owned and operated a fabric store in Cuba for a few years, she worked for Bill Wallis and ended her working career helping her husband at the Son Advertising Sign Company, until they both retired in 1983. Tillie was an excellent seamstress and during her working career she made all of her own clothing. Tillie spent hours working on crafts, making silk flower arrangements, knitting, helping at church and enjoyed watching the St. Louis Cardinals. Tillie didn't drive till several years after they moved to Cuba, she would take a cab everywhere. Tillie was a twenty year member of the Cuba United Methodist Church, member of the Golden Mariners and every year Tillie would get up at church and recite the "Christmas Story" from memory. Tillie was a loving daughter, sister, wife, aunt, great aunt, cousin, sister-in-law and friend of many. She will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her. Tillie is preceded in death by her parents Ludwig and Emma Sudmeyer, husband John Harris, in laws and other family and friends. Those who are left to treasure her memory and to continue her legacy is her brother Paul T. and wife Elizabeth Sudmeyer, nephews Scott and wife Dawn Hines and Todd Sudmeyer, niece Megan and husband Jody Porter, two great nephews Sam Sudmeyer and Brandon Porter, one great niece Ashley Porter. Cousins Liesel Ann and husband John Schneider, William E. and wife Felicia Schnittker and Eric Schnittker, two very special friends Dina Thomas and Jessie Sudmeyer and a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 29, 2015 from 9:00 till 11:00 AM at the Mizell Funeral Home, 904 W Washington Street, Cuba, Missouri. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at the Mizell Funeral Home, 904 W Washington Street, Cuba with Pastor Joseph Frana officiating. Special music will be "How Great Thou Art", "In The Garden" and "Blue Bird of Happiness". Interment and prayers will follow at the Meramec Hills Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cuba United Methodist Church, Cuba Animal Shelter or Shelter Pals, in Tillie's memory. The Mizell Funeral Home of Cuba is honored to be serving Tillie's family
