Mary Joan Kespohl was born on Monday, August 1, 1932, in Oak Hill, Missouri, to Fred and Mary (Rutz) Brandenburger. She passed away on Sunday, October 13, in Cuba, Missouri.
Joan was married for 41 years to Richard Kespohl. They moved around the midwest during their married life and were happy to return to their hometown of Cuba in 1976. They had a wonderful life together, and he was constantly on her mind during her 25 year widowhood. She enjoyed getting together with friends and family through the years, who all have fond memories of times spent laughing and visiting and telling stories. She was an avid reader of the Post Dispatch and the Cuba Free Press, was an expert at crossword puzzles, and never missed an episode of Jeopardy. She lived by her own rules and wasn't afraid to speak her mind. She had her own style in her dress and in her home, and never worried about what others thought. She and Richard were a great host and hostess and always loved throwing a party.
She was a loving mom to her daughters and sons-in-law Mary and Jeff Cunningham and Sue and Tim Ryle. She was a proud, supportive and generous Grandma Joie to Richard and Shannon Cunningham and Max Ryle. She has two remaining dear sisters-in law, Pearl Brandenburger and Diane Brandenburger. She was a special Aunt Joie to nieces and nephews and special friend to many throughout her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Richard, brother and sister-in-law John & Gerri Brandenburger, brothers Bill Brandenburger and Jack Brandenburger, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Joyce and Jack Sims, three nieces, one nephew and two great-nephews."
"What we have once enjoyed, we can never lose. All that we love becomes a part of us". Helen Keller
Private burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery, Cuba, MO.
The Mizell Funeral Home of Cuba is honored to be serving the Kespohl family.
