Marvin E. Richardson

April 2, 1945 — November 23, 2022

Marvin Eugene Richardson of Cuba, Missouri was born on April 2, 1945 to the union of John Andrew “Matt” Richardson and Dorothy (Medley) Richardson in Steelville, Missouri. He passed away at his home with his family by his side on Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at the age of 77.


Marvin or “Genie” as he was known by his family, attended schools in the Steelville, Cuba, and Augusta areas due to the family moving in order to find employment.

At the age of 19 Marvin was united in marriage to Fern Eaton and three children, Christopher, Angelia, and Joey were born.


At the age of 23, he entered the United States Army with Basic Training at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO and AIT Training at Ft. Lewis, Washington, before being sent to Vietnam. He obtained the following Service Medals and Badges Bronze Star, Vietnam Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal and Combat Infantry Badge. In October of 2016, Marvin was part of the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C.


Returning home, Marvin resumed his employment with BFI Trash Service in St. Louis, Brown Shoe Co., Convey Heel Co. and finally with Georgia-Pacific from which he retired after some 27 years of dedicated service.


In 1992, his marriage to Fern ended and on November 8, 1997, he married Donna Maxfield.


Marvin loved sports of all kinds, especially baseball, pitching horseshoes and bowling of which he had a perfect 300 game. Marin and Donna enjoyed traveling on their motorcycle.


Marvin was a former member of the Cherryville Fire Dept. and the Cuba Fire Dept., Old Tyme Gospel Singers, Retread and GWRRA Chapter P Motorcycle Clubs and the Cuba VFW POST 7147 and he previously attended Center Ridge Pentecostal Church.


Marvin is preceded in death by his parents Matt and Dorothy (Medley) Richardson; three brothers and one sister Kellis (Lula) Richardson, Aundo “Red” (Betty) Richardson, Herb Richardson, Wilma (George) Foster; one brother-in-law Laverne Britton; parents-in-law Ray and Ada Maxfield; four nephews and three nieces.


Survived by his wife Donna Richardson of the home; three children Chris (Tammy) Richardson, of Granite City, IL, Angie (Kelly) Edgar of Cherryville, MO and Joey (Jenna) Richardson of St. James, MO; nine grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren; three sisters Irene Britton of Hillsdale, MI, Bonnie Rohr, of Sullivan, MO. Barbara Jenkins, Bourbon, MO; nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.


Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 27, 2022, from 12-2 p.m. at Mizell Funeral Home 904 W. Washington St. Cuba, Missouri.


Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, November 27, 2022, 2:00 p.m. at Mizell Funeral Home with Pastor Bob Coleman, officiating.


Honored to be serving as pallbearers are grandsons, James Martin, Anderson, Ainslee and Connor Richardson, nephews, Mike and Rusty Richardson. Honorary pallbearers Keith Neff and Bryon Click.


Interment with full military honors will follow at Kinder Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri.


In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to Partners for the Cuba Pound or Cuba VFW Post #7147.
