Lucille 'Lou' Hawn

Lucille "Lou" Hawn of Cuba, Missouri was born Friday, November 26, 1920 at Desloge, Missouri to the union of Benjamin H. and Betsy Cleo (nee: Goodson) Slinkard and went home to the with the Lord on Thursday, November 17, 2016 at her home in Cuba at the age of 95 years. Lou attended Granton Grade School and continued her education at Hodgens School located on Harriett and California Street through the 10th grade. She was the teacher's pet and was asked to ring the bells on the wall during class, which was a high honor. Her favorite subjects were music and recess. After the 10th grade, Lou met a tall dark handsome man named Andrew Ezekiel Hawn while attending church. They dated for a year before they were married on May 26, 1939 at her parents' home on St. Vincent Street by Pastor A.L. Roach. They were the proud parents of William Andrew and Robert Leo. Lou's first job was working at Central Weavers, where she was asked to mend linen tablecloths at $10.00 per week. Lou also worked at the United Bag Company, was a waitress, clerk at Walgreens and worked in the bakery at Kroger's during the years she worked. Lou was an active and faithful member of the Cuba Freewill Baptist Church. She enjoyed visiting old friends. Going shopping and sharing a prepared meal. Lou did ceramics for years, was on a bowling league from 1963 to 1982 and always treasured playing the piano and the organ for her church. Up until a week ago, Lou knitted washcloths and shared them with all of her friends. Lou's motto was "Do unto others as you want done unto you" and her advice was "You can raise your children but they will do what they want to do". Lou was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, mother-in-law, aunt, great aunt and friend of many. She will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her. Lou is preceded in death by her parents Benjamin and Betsy Slinkard, husband Andy Hawn, one son William Andrew "Bill" Hawn, one granddaughter Maggie, two sister Mary and husband Earl and Ruth and other relatives and friends. Those who are left to treasure her memory and to continue her legacy are her loving son Robert Leo "Bob" Hawn of Washington Court House Square, Ohio, daughter-in-law Pat Hawn of St. Louis, one furry four legged child Zeke, seven grandchildren Lisa, Rob, Amy, Billy, Abryanna, Mason and Melana, ten great grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren,special friends Don Martin and family, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held Sunday, November 20, 2016 from 3:00 till 6:00 PM at the Mizell Funeral Home, 904 W Washington Street, Cuba, Missouri. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, November 21, 2016 at the Mizell Funeral Home, 904 W Washington Street, Cuba with Pastor Don Martin officiating. Special recorded music will be "God Walked the Dark Hills", "What a Friend We Have in Jesus", "He Touched Me", "In the Garden" and "Amazing Grace". Interment and prayers will follow at the Meramec Hills Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cuba Freewill Baptist Church, 707 Myrtle Street, Cuba in Lou's memory. The Mizell Funeral Home of Cuba is honored to be serving Lou's family.
