Joyce Stewart

Joyce Stewart, 87, of Cuba, passed away, Thursday, June 12, 2025, at her home in the comforting presence of her sons, Robert and Roger, and her brother, Roger Dorf.

On August 10, 1937, Joyce was born to the union of Walter Edward Dorf & Maude Ione (Stubblefield) in St. Louis, Missouri.

She was a graduate of Cuba High School and attended Southeast Missouri State before returning home and marrying the love of her life, Robert “Bob” Stewart on April 1, 1956, in Cuba. Although it was Aprils fools day, their love was no joke as they would remain married until his passing in 2015.

Joyce was employed by Crawford County Electric before embarking on her career with People’s Bank of Cuba, at which she would dedicate 66 years of service to her customers and her community. Joyce served not only as the senior vice of Peoples Bank, but also as a Board member until the time of her passing.

She was a longtime devoted member of the Cuba United Methodist Church, serving as a trustee as well as a pillar in the quilting club. Bob and Joyce created the “Go-Club” through People’s Bank which organized trips all over the world for retired members of the community looking to get the most out of life. She also served as the State Dean for the “Rainbow Girls”.

Joyce was a master seamstress, having hand crafted many items of clothing, specifically, wedding gowns, baby booties, blankets and quilts. Among her other talents, Joyce was an extraordinary culinary artist, providing beautiful and delicious home cooked meals and baked goods. Some of her family’s fondest memories of her cooking were her famous Sunday morning popovers as well as her notorious Halloween donuts that she and Bob handed out to all of the ghosts and goblins that would stop by for a sweet treat. Her cinnamon rolls and chocolate chip cookies were legendary! She could design and sew your wedding gown and bake a stunning and delicious wedding cake to match! Bob and Joyce enjoyed international traveling as well as loading up their R.V. and adventuring across the country to a new destination. Most of all, Joyce loved spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family and most certainly her friends. She will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter & Maude Dorf; one sister, Joan Lee; the love of her life and husband, Robert “Bob” Stewart.

Joyce is survived by her two sons, Robert Alan (Julie) Stewart of Louisville,Kentucky and Roger Alden (Stacy) Stewart of Owensville; one brother, Roger (Sandy) Dorf of Dallas, Texas; one sister Emily (Woody) Mosher of Cuba; Her aunt, Frieda Workman of Cuba; sisters-in-law, June Albrecht of Cuba, Nancy (Don) Fisher of Arizona and Marilyn Stewart of Cuba; five grandchildren, Nicholas (Brittany) Stewart of Louisville, Kentucky, Alexander Stewart of New York,New York, Samuel (Morgan) of West Plains, Benjamin Stewart of Owensville and Joyce (Jacob) Gidinghagen of Owensville, Mo., four great-grandchildren, Judah Gidinghagen, Ezra Gidinghagen, James Wells Stewart and a great granddaughter that will be arriving any day; numerous other relatives and many, many friends.

A memorial gathering for Joyce will take place on Saturday, July 12, 2025, from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. at the Cuba United Methodist Church. A memorial service will begin at 1:00 P.M. also at the Cuba United Methodist Church. Inurnment of Joyce & Robert Stewart's urns will follow the memorial service at Meramec Hills Memorial Lawn. A Celebration of Life will follow after the graveside service, at 3:00 P.M at the Wallace House.
