Joseph Henry 'Joe' Licklider

May 8, 1939 — January 20, 2015

Joseph Henry Licklider of Cuba, Missouri was born May 8, 1939 at Jakes Prairie, Missouri to the union of Leslie E. and Pearl Gertrude (Nee: Shoemate) Licklider and left from this life on Thursday, January 22, 2015 at Sullivan, Missouri at the age 75 years. Joe was united in marriage to Lucy A. Mason on July 8, 1961 at Cuba to this union three children were born; John, Christina and Lisa. Joe proudly served in the United States Navy from 1959 until 1964 where he served as a dental assistant. After the Navy Joe went to work for MODOT and retired in April of 1999 after 35 years of dedicated service. Joe was a lifetime member of the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, Jakes Prairie. Joe spent many hours building and painting his model trains and airplanes. He enjoyed going to the river to camp and canoe. After retirement Joe took care of his cows, tractors and of course his precious truck. Joe was an avid WWII history buff. What Joe enjoyed most in life was spending time with his family and friends. Joe was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, great uncle, cousin, brother-in-law and friend of many. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him. Joe is preceded in death by his parents Leslie and Pearl Gertrude Licklider, one brother Don Licklider and other relatives and friends. Those who are left to treasure his memory and to continue his legacy are his loving wife Lucy A. Licklider of the home, one son John C. and wife Sharla Licklider of Kansas City, Missouri, two daughters Christina and husband Joe Vaughn of Salem, Missouri and Lisa and husband Greg Glasscock of Boonville, Missouri, eight grandchildren Corey and wife Annie Austen of Kansas City, Kansas, Brianna and husband Tanner Tomac of Liberty, Missouri, Sadie Licklider of Kansas City, Missouri, Leslie Glasscock of Boonville, Missouri, Matt Glasscock of Boonville, Missouri, Katy Vaughn of Salem, Missouri, Lauren Licklider of Kansas City, Missouri and Steven Vaughn of Salem, Missouri, two great grandchildren Kennedie Licklider of Kansas City, Missouri and Brayden Tomac of Liberty, Missouri, one brother Jim and wife Wendy Licklider of Groton, Conneticut, one sister Carol and husband David Wheeler of Cuba, three sisters-in-law Shirley and husband Doug Rutz of Cuba and Bernice and husband Ken Shuey of Zebulon, North Carolina, Alberta Licklider of Cuba, Missouri, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held Saturday, January 24, 2015 from 5:00 till 8:00 PM at the Mizell Funeral Home, 904 W Washington Street, Cuba, Missouri. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, January 25, 2015 at the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, Mt Pleasant Road, Jakes Prairie, Missouri with Pastor Dennis Spurgeon officiating. Honored to be serving as casket bearers will be Corey Austen, Steven Vaughn, Matt Glasscock, Greg Glasscock, Tanner Tomac, Joe Vaughn, Johnny Seitz and Billy Seitz. Interment, prayers and full military honors will follow at the Licklider Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to the Missouri Baptist Children's Home or the Diabetes Foundation in Joe's memory. The Mizell Funeral Home of Cuba is honored to be serving the Licklider family.
