Joseph Andrew Smith

October 2, 1966 — November 17, 2017

Joseph Andrew "Joe" Smith of Cuba, Missouri was born Sunday, October 2, 1966 to John D. and Janet (Nee: Tayloe) Smith and left from this life, surrounded by family, on Friday, November 17, 2017 at Cuba Manor at the age of 51 years. Joe was a graduate of the Cuba High School. After graduation, he attended South East Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, Missouri where he earned a degree in Quality Control. Joe worked Georgia Pacific for almost a year before his health began to decline. In later part of 1991 Joe was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and he had to move back to Cuba from Wyoming. Growing up, Joe enjoyed turkey hunting, fishing and just being outside. He spent hours doing woodworking and made many things including canes. Joe also spent time playing golf and riding his four-wheeler. Since October of 2006 Joe has been at Cuba Manor, where he enjoyed the company of the workers and all who came to visit. For the last many years, Joe has been an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and he rarely missed watching the game on TV. He was a longtime member of Trinity Chapel Presbyterian Church of Cuba and always enjoyed every Sunday that he got to be there. What Joe truly loved most in life was spending time with his family and watching his nieces and nephews grow up. Joe was a loving son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin, nephew and friend of everyone he ever met. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him. He is preceded in death by his grandparents and other family and friends. Those who are left to treasure his memory and to continue his legacy are his loving parents; John and Janet Smith of Cuba, three brothers; Jim and wife Michelle Smith of Owensville, Jeff and wife Barb Smith of Owensville and Jon and wife Teresa Smith of Walnut Grove, Missouri, three nieces Lauren Smith of Gainesville, Florida, Cassidy Smith of Lynn and Claire Smith of Union, three nephews Nathan and wife Whitney Smith of Springfield, Missouri, Braden Smith of Owensville and Jonathon Smith of Walnut Grove, aunts and uncles; Carole and Sonnie Dotson of Owensville, Ed and Connie Smith of Cuba and Bob and Barb Smith of St. James, many cousins, staff of Cuba Manor and a host of other relatives and friends.
