John Simpson

April 21, 1961 — August 15, 2025

Cuba, Missouri

John "Jay" Roy Simpson, 64, of Cuba, passed away, unexpectedly on Friday, August 15, 2025, at his home in Cuba.

On April 21, 1961, Jay was born to the union of Austin Simpson & Shirley (Kiel) in Saint Charles, Missouri.

Jay attended Ritenour High School in Breckenridge Hills, Missouri.

On December 19, 1984, Jay was united in marriage to Melinda (Fuqua) in Clayton, Missouri.

He spent his entire career as a cement finisher with the Cement Masons 527 as well as the Laborers Local 110.

Even though Jay spent his hardworking days outside, he also found enjoyment in the outdoors by being an avid hunter and fisherman. Jay loved to go camping and plucking trout out of the Meramec River at Meramec Springs Park. He had a passion from growing tomatoes or "maters" as he called them. Tending to his "mater" plants was no simple task, especially when dealing with pesky moles, fortunately, Jay was always successful in keeping them away. Being out on a boat on a river or a lake is where Jay also found quiet time and quality time with his boys. Jay was a loving grandfather and adored each of his grandchildren. Jay had a wild side, and he loved to go to the casino, specifically, "Ameristar" in St. Charles. Most of all, Jay loved his family very much and he will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Jay was preceded in death by his father, Austin Simpson; one sister, Denita Rohman; sister-in-law, Pam Melton; stepfather, Donald "Whip" Weselon.

He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Melinda Simpson of Cuba; two sons, Jason (Brittany) Simpson of Kentucky & Andy (Ashley) Simpson of Cuba; his mother, Shirley Weseloh of Cottleville; two sisters, Lori (Robin) Haller of Arkansas & Barb (Allen) Borgan of California; three brothers-in-law, Mike Fuqua of Kentucky, Greg (Jennifer) Fuqua of Kentucky & Shaun Fuqua of Kentucky; two sisters-in-law, Sue Flood of Steelville & Tina (Robin) Fee of St. Ann; six grandchildren, Leland, Madilyn, Addison, Ryan, Remington & Jace; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.
