Jean Merritt, of Cuba, passed away in Steelville, on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at the age of 99 years. She was born to the Union of Roy and Alice (Carroll) Brewer, on July 12, 1926, in Cuba.
She lived a good, long life, not afraid of hard work and always caring for others. When there wasn’t work to be done, she enjoyed dancing with her husband, Albert Merritt, and looking after the animals that she loved so much. Jean and Albert operated Merrit Cattle Farm and Merritt Sawmill for several years, with her being an integral part of their businesses. She is remembered as being like a mother hen to everyone, keeping them safe and secure under her wings.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Merritt; parents, Roy and Alice Brewer; brothers, Donald Brewer, Pickney “Bud” Brewer; sisters, Renae Cassidy, Faye Parnell, Mary Senecal; great-granddaughter, Baby Catherine.
She is survived by her daughters, Judy Merritt of Steelville, Helen Eoff of Bourbon; son, Ron Merritt of Steelville; sister, Janet Bialock; granddaughter Shelby; great grandchildren, Shiann, Morgin, Cole; other relatives and many friends.
Memorial donations are appreciated to the Steelville Senior Living Center, 311 North Spring Street, Steelville, Missouri 65565.
A memorial visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. at Mizell Funeral Home & Crematory, Cuba, Missouri. A memorial service will take place also on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at 11:00 A.M. at Mizell Funeral Home & Crematory.
Inurnment will be at Kinder Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri.
