Janice "Jan" Honea

January 9, 1954 — July 4, 2021

Janice “Jan” Honea of Cuba, Missouri was born on Saturday, January 9, 1954 in Emporia, Kansas to the union of John and Rose (May) Gunkel. She left from this life unexpectedly on Sunday, July 4, 2021 at Phelps Health in Rolla, Missouri at the age of 67 years.

Jan was united in marriage to David Honea on November 7, 1972 in Newark, Delaware. To this union two children were born Todd and Nichole.

Jan honorably served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam era. She was co-owner of Personal Defense Dynamics, she taught over 30,000 people firearm safety. She had a strong faith in Lord and was a devoted member of the Steelville First Assembly of God Church. She enjoyed being an expert shooter, race car driver, scuba diver and motorcycle momma.

Jan is preceded in death by her parents John and Rose (May) Gunkel; one sister Judy Homer; one brother-in-law Jimmy Honea.

Those who are left to treasure her memory and to continue her legacy are her loving husband David Honea; two children Todd and wife Robin Honea, Nichole Honea all of Cuba; one chosen son Brian wife Tiffany Bigelow and family of Omaha, Texas; two grandchildren Jacob and Samantha Honea; two brothers John Gunkel of Jacksboro, Tennessee and Jim and wife Vickey Gunkel of Shawnee, Kansas; one sister JoAnn and husband Larry Miller of Overland Park, Kansas; cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and many friends.

Visitation will be held on Monday, July 12, 2021 5-8 p.m. at Mizell Funeral Home 904 W. Washington St. Cuba, Missouri.

Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, July 13, 2021 10:00 a.m. at Mizell Funeral Home with Pastor Gary Mace, officiating.

Interment with full military honors will follow at Ft. Leonard Wood State Veterans Cemetery, Waynesville, Missouri.

If desired, memorials would be appreciated to the Steelville First Assembly of God Church or Amazing Grace Church.

The Mizell Funeral Home of Cuba is honored to be serving the Honea family.
