James W. Sturgell Sr., 98, a long-time resident of Cuba, Missouri, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2024, at age 98.
On August 20, 1925, Jim was born to the union of Dennis Sturgell and Ethel (Issacs) in Kentucky.
Jim was the cherished husband of the late Maxine Sturgell. He leaves behind sons James W. Sturgell, Jr. (Maggie) and Bruce Sturgell.
Jim served his country with honor and pride as a Veteran of the United States Air Corps during WWII, earning the rank of Technical Sergeant, flying many missions as Top Gunner on a B29. Among the military medals and awards Jim received for his service, he was most proud of the Distinguished Flying Cross. He also received two Bronze Stars, two Bronze Clusters, American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon & a Distinguished Flying Cross. In his professional life, Jim worked for over 30 years as an Electrician and was a Member of IBEW Local 1.
Funeral Services will be private. To honor Jim's memory, a gathering to celebrate his life will be held at a later date and at a location in his community of Cuba, Missouri.
Burial will take place at Fort Leonard Wood Veterans Cemetery in Waynesville.
