James Edward Joiner

James Edward Joiner of St. James, Missouri, formerly of Cuba, was born Sunday, September 28, 1952 at Paducah, Kentucky to the union of Lawrence and Shirley (nee: Rushing) Joiner. He left from this life on Thursday, September 13, 2018 at University Hospital, Columbia, surrounded by family, at the age of 65 years. James served in the United States Army from November 23, 1982 till November 22, 1986. He earned the Army Service Ribbon, Army Lapel Button, Army Good Conduct Medal, Marksman Qualification Badge M-16 Rifle and the Sharpshooter Qualification Badge Hand Grenade. He was a General Construction Equipment Operator for three years and eight months while serving the Army. He worked at Can-Tex in Rolla for several years before going to work in Sullivan at Aerofil Technology. James worked at Aerofil until his health began to decline. James and Mary moved to St. James after he retired. He spent hours watching basketball and wrestling. He was an avid motorcycle enthusiast and he collected all kinds of motorcycle memorabilia. James favorite past time was spending time and going for walks with his poodle Spike. James was united in marriage to Mary A. Whiteside Koch on May 18, 1985 at Cuba, Missouri. James was a loving son, brother, husband, father, step father, grandfather, step grandfather, step great grandfather, uncle, great uncle, cousin, brother-in-law and friend of many. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him. He is preceded in death by his mother Shirley Joiner, one brother Jeffery Joiner, step daughter-in-law Julie Koch and other family and friends. Those who are left to treasure his memory and to continue his legacy are his loving wife of thirty-three years Mary Joiner of St. James, daughter Katherine Carter of Hopkinsville, Kentucky, his father Lawrence Joiner of Paducah, Kentucky, two step sons; Steve Koch and companion Monica of Cuba and David and wife Carla Koch of Columbia, Missouri, two grandchildren; Hannah and Aurbee, three step grandchildren; Devin and husband Chazz Palgren of St. Louis, David and wife Stephanie Woodruff of Durango, Colorado and Bailey, two step great grandchildren; Mason and Finnley Woodruff, one brother Kim Joiner of Paducah, Kentucky, sister-in-law Doris and husband Kelly O'Conner of St. James, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held 4:00 p.m. Saturday, October 6, 2018 at the Mizell Funeral Home, 904 W Washington Street, Cuba. Special recorded music will be ‘Oh Happy Day" and "My Lighthouse". In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children Research Hospital or Shriners Hospital for Children in James' memory. The Mizell Funeral Home is honored to be serving James family.
