James E. "Jim" Shockley

September 19, 1939 — February 15, 2021

James E. "Jim" Shockley of Cuba, Missouri was born on Tuesday, September 19, 1939 in Cuba, Missouri to the union of William C. and Mabel (Golden) Shockley. He left from this life on Monday, February 15, 2021 at the Missouri Veterans Home in St. James, Missouri at the age of 81 years.

Jim was united in marriage to Betsy Ann Yates on February 23, 1963 and to this union three children were born Rachel, Douglas and Glen.

Jim lived almost his whole life in Cuba, he graduated from Cuba High School in 1959. He was a longtime member and Deacon of the First Baptist Church of Cuba, Past Master of Cuba Lodge #312 A.F. & A.M. He honorably served his country in the United States Army and retired as a lineman for Show-Me Power, after 36 years of dedicated service.

Jim and Betsy were camp host for Onondaga Cave State Park for several years, they enjoyed meeting new people and spending some leisure time at the campground. Jim loved to go fishing, gigging, hunting, trimming trees and cutting wood for family and friends.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents William C. "Bill" and Mabel (Golden) Shockley; stepmother Ann Shockley; brother John "Mickey" Shockley; sister Juanita Shockley; son-in-law Robert "Clay" Weekes; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Glen Pasch, Jimmy (Dorothy) Yates, Selby, George and Herbert Yates, Elinor Kim and his beloved fur buddy Teddy.

Those who are left to treasure his memory and to continue his legacy are his loving wife of fifty-eight years Betsy Ann (Yates) Shockley of the home; three children Rachel Weekes of Valley Park, Doug and wife Paula Shockley, Glen and wife Alicia Shockley all of Cuba; ten grandchildren Andrew, Austin, Hannah, Hailey, Amelia and Courtney Shockley, Corbin "Cory" and wife Joy Weekes, Caleb Weekes, Tony and wife Jordan Hansel, Aimee and husband B.J. Bartle; two great-grandchildren Payton Shockley and William Hansel; two sisters Ruth and husband John McQuaide of Houston, Texas, Rose Jane Pasch of Cuba; nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and other family and friends.


Visitation will be held on Friday, February 19, 2021 from 5-8 p.m. with a Masonic service at 7:00 p.m. at Mizell Funeral Home 904 W. Washington St. Cuba, Missouri.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2021 11:00 a.m. at Mizell Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Moore, officiating.

Interment will follow at Kinder Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri.

If desired, memorials would be appreciated to the Missouri Veterans Home - Residents Fund 620 N. Jefferson St. St. James, Missouri 65559.
