James Daniel 'Danny' Whitman

James Daniel "Danny" Whitman, Sr. of Cuba formerly of Steelville, Missouri was born Friday, November 29, 1940 at Weona, Arkansas to the union of Hubert and Dessie (Nee: Lewis) Whitman and left from this life on Friday, June 28, 2013 at Cuba, Missouri at the age of 72 years 6 months and 29 days. Danny was united in marriage to Dorothy Cook on April 9, 1961 at Ferguson, Missouri and to this union seven children were born; James Jr., Teresa, Lisa, Tim, Melissa, Michell and Melinda Gaye. Danny worked for many years as a truck driver, retiring in 1984 from Cassens Transport in St. Louis, Missouri. Danny enjoyed country music, watching NASCAR races and he would drink coffee all day long. In his younger years he did small engine repairs, raced stock cars in Valley Park, rode motorcycles and would spend hours tinkering on things. He enjoyed ice cream with his grandchildren and spending time with family and friends. Danny was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, great uncle, cousin and friend of many. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Danny is preceded in death by his parents Hubert and Dessie Whitman, his loving wife of 42 years Dorothy Whitman, two brothers Art and Lonnie Whitman, one sister Dora Carol, two grandsons Justin Switzer and Cody Whitman and other family and friends. Those who are left to treasure his memory and to continue his legacy is his sons James "Sammy" Whitman, Jr., of Steelville, and Tim and wife Debbie Whitman of Greenfield, Indiana, daughters Teresa and husband James Switzer of Cuba, Lisa Cunningham of Cuba, Melissa and husband Scott Blunt of Steelville and Michelle and husband Miguel Arvizu of Nogalez, Arizona, grandchildren; Brennon Shoemaker, James Switzer, Shane Switzer, Jessica Switzer, Josh Whitman, Shawntae Norris, Wesley Whitman, Elizabeth Whitman, Cynthia Arvizu, Ashley Arvizu, Jonathon Blunt, Jamie Vonk, Jason Blunt, Thomas Blunt, Joseph Cunningham, Monique Cunningham and Natasha Cunningham, nineteen great grandchildren, one brother Ellis and wife Ellie Whitman of Florida, two sisters Barbara Roach of Bourbon and Karen and husband Pierre Boumann of Miami, Florida, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held Sunday, June 30, 2013 from 5 till 8 PM at the Mizell Funeral Home, 904 W Washington, Cuba, Missouri. Funeral service will be 10 AM Monday, July 1, 2013 at the Mizell Funeral Home with Rev Gene Rauls officiating. Special music will be "Amazing Grace" by Jamie Shoemaker, "I Will See You Again" and "When I Get Where I'm Going". Interment and prayers will be held at 2:30 PM Monday, July 1, 2013 at the Praise Temple Memorial Gardens in Fredericktown, Missouri. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer Association in Danny's memory. The Mizell Funeral Home of Cuba is honored to be serving the Whitman family.
