Hattie Joyce “Granny” McCallum of Cuba, Missouri was born on March 5, 1934 in Dyersburg, Tennessee to the union of John and Hattie (Butler) Mayfield. She left from this life on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 at St. Luke’s-West Hospital in Chesterfield, Missouri at the age of 87.
Hattie was a team worker and served many years as a server. Being a people person and a good listener was a winning combination and provided her the opportunity for a long-term career as a waitress at Bobber Café in Sullivan. She met interesting people from all occupations and enjoyed their conversation and the opportunity to interact with them as she served tables. She also loved the outdoors and had a love for fishing, and camping. Hattie had spent long hours as a professional server but her greatest joy was cooking and serving a meal for her precious family, passing along family traditions and creating memories to treasure.
Hattie is preceded in death by her parents John and Hattie (Butler) Mayfield; four children Patricia Hall, Vickie Allen, Johnnie McCallum and Kenneth McCallum; one brother Buddy Mayfield; two sisters Hazel Gower and Rosie Johnson; three grandsons Brandon McCallum, Brent McCallum and Brian Shelton.
Those who are left to treasure her memory and to continue her legacy are her two sons Jimmie and wife Barb McCallum of Cuba and David McCallum of Steelville; two sisters Johnnie Buddemeyer of Fenton, Patricia Mayfield of Pacific; one brother James and wife Susie Mayfield of DeSoto; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and many friends.
Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.
The Mizell Funeral Home of Cuba is honored to be serving the McCallum family.
