Obituary

Geraldine Elizabeth King, 89, of Sullivan, passed away, Sunday, December 28, 2025, in the comforting presence of her home.

On a cold, snowy night on January 18, 1936, in Shirley, Missouri, Geraldine was born to the union of William Orville King & Revil (Dilks). She was delivered by her 19-year-old aunt while her father was unfortunately stuck in the snowstorm, having left to go retrieve the aid of the mid-wife.

Geraldine worked as a material coordinator for Bussman Fuse Manufacturing until her retirement.

She was united in marriage to Timothy Cavanaugh.

Geraldine was very talented with her hands, having mastered needlepoint, assembling beautiful quilts as well as a seasoned seamstress. She had a passion for gardening & growing beautiful vegetables that she would can after harvesting. Some of her favorite goods to can were green beans & peaches. She wasn't a stranger to hard work, Geraldine enjoyed tending to the Hereford cows that her husband and her had raised on their farm, Cavanaugh Hereford Cows. She fed, cleaned, delivered and even bottle fed and named all the cows that they tended. Most of all, Geraldine loved spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren. She will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William Orville & Revil King; Siblings, Bernice Cox, Ronald King, Mary Scott, Dale Young, Cowan King & Loretta Corbin.

Geraldine is survived by her loving daughters, Linda (James) Shamess of Texas & Donna (Rodney) Vohsen of Sullivan; two siblings, Ruby Adams of Florida & Carol Young of Illinois; two grandchildren, Caitlin Shamess of Texas & James (Laura) Shamess of Texas; her beloved dog, Pepper; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.
