Obituary

Gary Thomas Scott, 70, of Oskaloosa, Kansas, previously of Cuba, Missouri passed away, Sunday, October 4, 2026, in Oskaloosa.

On April 17, 1956, Gary was born to the union of Joseph Thomas Scott & Sadie B. (Loeb) in Washington, Missouri.

Gary was a 1974 graduate of Cuba High School and would go on to earn his bachelor’s in business from Southwest Missouri State University (now MSU) in 1978. Gary would then further his education, earning his master’s degree in marketing and management. He was a member of the Sigma Pi Fraternity serving as their chapter president.

He worked for many years in Texas and California with FEMA, eventually returning to Missouri in 2006.

Throughout the years, Gary enjoyed playing softball, adding to his Lionel train collection, spending time with family & friends around the holidays, cooking delicious meals and most of all spending time with his border collie, Sam. Gary will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Gary was of the Christian faith and accepted the Lord in his youth.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph (Sadie) Scott; stepmother, Ruth Scott; grandparents, Robert (Anna) Scott & William (Matilda) Loeb; aunts & uncles, Jim (Jane) Scott, Roberta (John) Mason, Birdie Lou Halbert & Irene Loeb; infant niece, Amanda Turke.

Gary is survived by his sister, Susan and her husband Scott Estes of Rogersville; special cousin, Marva Halbert and her husband Denny McClintock of St. Charles; step-siblings, Don (Cleta) Bailey of Ohio & Pat (Eddie) Peters of Florida; nieces, Hannah (Will) Grubbs of Rogersville, Kim (Bill) Lawson of Pennsylvania & Kelle (Ty) Blume of Ohio; nephews, Jake (Mollie) Estes of Rogersville; other cousins, Scott (Berina) Halbert of Kansas City, Missouri & Carson McClintock of St. Charles; great-nieces; great-nephews; other relatives and many friends.

A private graveside service was held on Friday, October 9, 2026, at Meramec Hills Memorial Lawn in Cuba, Missouri.

Arrangements are under the care and compassion of Mizell Funeral Home & Crematory of Cuba, Missouri.
