Frederick Douglas Scherer, of O’Fallon, Missouri, passed away peacefully at home on November 18, 2025, surrounded by his cherished family. He was born on March 13, 1940, in East St. Louis, Illinois to Frederick J. and Emma E. (Schumacher) Scherer. He lived a full and meaningful life, reaching the age of 85.

Fred married the love of his life, Jacqueline Brakensiek, on October 15, 1960, in Ferguson, Missouri. Together, they created a nurturing home for their three children: Douglas, Diane, and Laura.

A member of Floor Layers Union #1310, Fred was a master of his craft, enjoying more than forty years of fulfillment in his work. His patriotism was evident as he served seven years in the United States Army Reserve as a Tank Gunner and Rifle Marksman, Specialist E-5 with the 11th Army Corps. Co. A, 4th Medium Tank Battalion, 35th Armored Regiment, 102nd Infantry Division.  Fred  was an ordained minister who along with Jacqueline served area prisons as chaplains for 23 years.  Fred's passions included hunting, fishing, motorcycle riding, and, most importantly, spending quality time with his family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Lamont Scherer, and his brother-in-law Merlin Brakensiek.

Fred’s memory will be forever treasured by his loving wife of sixty-five years, Jacqueline; their children Douglas (Susan) Scherer of O’Fallon, Diane (Keith) Semrow of Foristell, and Laura (Mark) Quick of O’Fallon; one brother-in-law Thomas Brakensiek of St. Charles; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

A visitation will be held on Monday, November 24, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. until the service begins at 1:00 p.m. at Mizell Funeral Home & Crematory, officiated by Pastor Darla Buettner. Interment will follow at Delhi Cemetery in Cuba, Missouri.
