Eugene E. "Gene" Brewer of Cuba, Missouri was born on Thursday, January 19, 1933 in Stirrat, West Virginia to the union of Carl and Elizabeth (Nee: Goodson) Brewer. He left from this life on Friday, September 27, 2019 at Phelps Health Hospital in Rolla, Missouri at the age of 86 years.
Gene was united in marriage to Jo Ann Stoff on December 23, 1958 in Martinsville, Indiana. To this union four children were born Merry, Bernard, William and Beverly.
When Gene lived in Highland, Illinois he was the Manager of the VFW Bowling Alley. After moving to Cuba, he would become the Grounds Keeper at Cuba Lakes Golf Course for over 20 years.
He honorably served his country in the United States Army from March 9, 1951 until July 6, 1958, which was during the Korean War. Gene was a longtime parishioner at Holy Cross Catholic Church and he loved going to church.
Gene could always be found during the summer months on his lawn mower, he loved to cut grass. He enjoyed helping others, golfing, bowling, traveling, working the pits, as a crew man during the stock car races. What he truly treasured most in life was spending time with his family and friends.
He was a loving son, brother, brother-in-law, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, great uncle and friend of many. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Gene is preceded in death by his parents; eleven sisters and brothers Kathleen Gabany, Madge Sauder, Peggy Sparks, Virginia Repovich, infant Elizabeth Brewer, James, Clyde, Don Bobby, Harold and Kendal Brewer.
Those who left to treasure his memory and to continue his legacy are his loving wife of 61 years Jo Ann Brewer of the home; four children Merry and husband Adam Cloer of Leasburg, Missouri, Bernard "Bud" Brewer and fiancé Jodi Stephans of Chandler, Arizona, William "Bill" and wife Maria Brewer of Cuba, Missouri, Beverly and husband Kris Lenox of Cuba, Missouri; nine grandchildren Joshua-Seth Cloer, Isaiah Cloer, Calem and wife Candace Brewer, Chad Brewer, Michelle Brewer, Sara and husband Mike Zacher, Casi and husband Collin Cottrell, Michael and wife Alisha Earney, Haley Lenox; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Lois and husband Phillip Spies of Old Ripley, Illinois, Lynn and husband Floyd Klaus of Highland, Illinois, James and wife Bonnie Stoff of Highland, Illinois; ten great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great nephews and a host of friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 4, 2019 from 5-8 p.m. at Mizell Funeral Home 904 W. Washington St. Cuba, Missouri.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, October 5, 2019 11:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church with Rev. Dan Lueckenotte as the celebrant.
In keeping with his wishes, Gene will be cremated following the funeral mass. His cremated remains will then be placed in the columbarium at Holy Cross Cemetery.
