Elizabeth
Dempster
Apr 14, 1928 — Oct 8, 2026
Cuba, Missouri
Elizabeth Dempster, née Atkinson, died on October 8, 2026, at University Hospital in Columbia, Missouri. She was born on April 14, 1928, in Blackpool, England and lived a long life marked by devotion to family, a strong work ethic, and an enduring appreciation for beauty and adventure.
Over the course of her working life, Elizabeth built a varied and industrious career. She worked for Union Oil Company, for Singer Sewing Machine, and in real estate sales in Hendersonville, North Carolina. In each of these roles, she brought her own steady presence and capability, meeting the world with diligence and grace.
Elizabeth also cultivated the pleasures that gave her life color and character. She loved decorating with English décor, surrounding herself with the elegance and charm of a style that reflected her taste and sensibility. She also enjoyed traveling, embracing the opportunity to see new places and carry those experiences with her through the years.
She leaves a family who will remember her with love and gratitude. She is survived by her daughters, Lesley Bourne and Cheryl Winser, and by her son, Kevin Moore. Her legacy continues in her grandchildren, Shannon Marie Babski and her husband, Paul, Jill Elizabeth Moore, Eric Ryan Moore, Sarah Elizabeth Purk and her husband, Tommy, and George Thomas Bourne. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Joshua, Anna, Mia, Alex, Addisen, Isabelle, Aiden, James Thomas, Briar Rose, and Llayton Charles.
Elizabeth is further survived by her brother, George Bagot and wife Christine of Blackpool, England. She will also be fondly remembered by her nephews, Wez and Oliver Bagot. The love of her family, spread across generations and across distance, stands as a lasting tribute to the life she lived and the place she held in their hearts.
She is preceded in death by her mother Edna Atkinson and her husband Daniel Dempster.
If I should die, think only this of me: That there's some corner of a foreign field That is for ever England. There shall be In that rich earth a richer dust concealed; A dust whom England bore, shaped, made aware, Gave, once, her flowers to love, her ways to roam, A body of England's, breathing English air, Washed by the rivers, blest by suns of home. And think, this heart, all evil shed away, A pulse in the eternal mind, no less Gives somewhere back the thoughts by England given; Her sights and sounds; dreams happy as her day; And laughter, learnt of friends; and gentleness, In hearts at peace, under an English heaven.
Rupert Brooke, author
“For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.” Psalm 91:11 KJV
Elizabeth Dempster will be remembered for the life she built, the family she cherished, and the distinctive warmth of her interests and spirit. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her. She would want everyone to know "I do love you".
In keeping with her wishes, Elizabeth will be cremated. No services are planned.
