Dr. John Mathias 'Jack' Rathgeb Jr.

May 4, 1935 — January 1, 2014

Dr. John Mathias "Jack" Rathgeb, Jr. D.O. of Royal Palm Beach, Florida was born to the union of John Mathias and Aileen (Houston) Rathgeb on May 4, 1935 in McKeesport, Pennsylvania and left from this life on Wednesday, January 1, 2014 at his home at the age of 78. Dr. Jack attended Grove City College and went on to Medical School at Kirksville College. In his second year of medical school, he went on a blind date with his future bride of 51 years, Sue Slowensky. Jack and Sue married on July 7, 1962 and moved to Ypsilanti, Michigan where Jack completed his residency and practiced for some 14 years. The family then moved to Lake Worth, Florida where Jack served until his retirement from private practice in 1998. Jack enjoyed life and experienced it to the fullest! He savored spending time with his family Sue, Jeff, Toni, John and brother-in-law Teddy. Jack was a committed Christian and member of Palms West Presbyterian Church. He also was a 50 year Mason and member of Cuba Lodge #312 A.F. & A.M. He liked to play tennis, surf fish, snow and water ski. Jack is preceded in death by his parents John Mathias and Aileen (Houston) Rathgeb; two sons Jeffrey Blake Rathgeb and John Mathias Rathgeb, III. Those who are left to treasure his memory and to continue his legacy are his wife Sue Rathgeb; one daughter Toni and husband Gary Savage; one granddaughter Lauren Mattox; one sister Lynn and husband Sheldon Kushner; two brothers-in-law Teddy Slowensky, Joe and wife Janie Slowensky. Masonic service will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2014 11:30 a.m. at Mizell Funeral Home, followed by a lite lunch. Graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. at Kinder Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri. The Mizell Funeral Home is honored to be serving the Rathgeb family.
