Douglas M. "Pete" McLeod

Douglas M. “Pete” McLeod, a beloved resident of St. James and formerly of Cuba, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at the age of 91. Pete was born on February 19, 1932, in St. Louis, Missouri, to William M. and Edna E. (Roberts) McLeod.

Pete served his country with honor in the United States Army during the Korean War. He had a diverse professional background that included work in construction and truck driving. Additionally, Pete was known locally as a skilled Gun Smith. He possessed a deep passion for squirrel hunting and enjoyed collecting guns and antiques. One of his most cherished activities was feeding the neighborhood squirrels from his front porch, often accompanied by entertaining stories about them. Pete could usually be found at either The Rose or the Cuba VFW Post, enjoying a cold beverage and playing pull tabs.

As Pete's health declined, he resided at Cuba Manor before moving to the Missouri Veterans Home in St. James. The staff at both facilities became like family to him, bringing immense joy into his life with their companionship and care. Pete developed deep bonds with his favorite buddies at the Veterans Home.

Pete is survived by countless friends and loved ones who will miss him dearly. He is preceded in death by his parents William M. and Edna E. (Roberts) McLeod, as well as his brother Donald W. McLeod.

Visitation will take place on Monday, December 11, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., at Mizell Funeral Home. Following the visitation, a Funeral Service will be held at Mizell Funeral Home on the same day at 6:30 p.m. with Pastor Don Martin, officiating.

A Committal Service and Interment with military honors will be held on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at Ft. Leonard Wood State Veterans Cemetery in Waynesville, Missouri.
