Dorothy Lucille Lawson of Cuba formerly of Rolla, Missouri was born December 7, 1924 at Belle, Missouri to the union of Charles and Flora Johnson and left from this life on June 27, 2016 at Cuba, Missouri at the age of 91 years. Dot, as she was known by, was the fifth of nine children. She attended grade school in Belle, Missouri and was an active and talented young girl. She then attended Roosevelt High School in St. Louis where she earned top grades, was a gymnast who excelled on the parallel bars, was a talented artist who won first place at Carnegie Hall for her pen and ink drawing and for developing a new oil painting technique. During WWII Dot was scouted by the All American Women's Softball Team for the position of catcher. This is the same team that Tom Hanks made a movie about "League of Their Own". In 1943 Dot married Glen Lawson, a handsome young man who was the love of her life. Soon after their wedding, Glen joined the service and was sent to Europe where he fought during WWII. During the war, Dot worked at an ammunition factory and was a volunteer for the Red Cross. She gave birth to twin boys who kept her quite busy. When Glen returned home, from the service, they had two more children. They eventually moved to California where Dot worked for the Cable Car Kitchen at Knott's Farm for many years. After Glen retired they moved back to Missouri and settled in Rolla. Dot and Glen were long time devout members of the Seventh Day Adventist Church of Rolla. Dot had a beautiful soprano voice and loved to sing at church. Dot spent hours reading Christian books and articles. Her favorite past time was playing table games, watching old movies with her daughter and having family and friends over for a good dinner. She made the best pies ever. Above all, she was very devoted to her husband of seventy three years and her children. Dot was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, great aunt and friend of many. She will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her. Dot is preceded in death by her parents Charles and Flora Johnson, one son Kenneth and other family and friends. Those who are left to treasure her memory and to continue her legacy are her loving husband Glen, sons Lary and wife Lori, Gary and wife Gini, one daughter Karen, one sister Gloria, two brothers Charles and Bill, eight grandchildren; Julie, Steven, Blake, Clint, Jennifer, Kelly, Mathew and Kristopher, nine great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
