Derrel E. Jones of Leasburg, Missouri was born Sunday, May 5, 1946 at Iberia, Missouri to the union of Everret J. and Dorothy L. (Nee: Alexander) Jones and left from this life surrounded by family on Sunday, August 20, 2017 at Sullivan, Missouri at the age of 71 years. Derrel proudly served in the United States Army from 23 April 1968 till 16 January 1970. He earned he National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Army Commendation Medal. Derrel was united in marriage to Diane Jackson on March 9, 1979 at Cuba, Missouri and they became the proud parents of Mary, Ryan and Kent. He was 15 years old when he went to work with his father climbing pools for LP&H Contractors. He retired from Crawford Electric, as a lineman, after thirty-six and half years of dedicated service. Derrel and Diane spent their winters in Mississippi, Louisiana or Florida and they would flip a coin to see were they would go during the summer. They made many trips to Carlyle Lake, took their family to the ocean and grandchildren to Branson. For many years you could find Derrel at the "Round Table" at Ikes, having coffee in the morning. He was a motorcycle enthusiast but sold his when he became dad. After the children were grown he purchased a motorcycle again. He really enjoyed his toys; dune buggy, boats and motorcycles. He even water skied on the Meramec River. He was a devout member to the Trinity Chapel Presbyterian Church for many years. Derrel loved life, liked challenges and truly enjoyed each day he was given. What he treasured beyond words was his family, they truly were the sparkle in his eyes and smile on his face. Derrel was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, great uncle, cousin, son-in-law, brother-in-law and friend of everyone he ever met. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him. He is preceded in death by his parents Everret and Dorothy Jones, sister Alice Petree, father-in-law Robert Jackson and other family and friends. Those who are left to treasure his memory and to continue his legacy are his loving wife of thirty eight years Diane Jones of the home, one daughter Mary and husband Marko Turner of Sullivan, two sons Ryan Jones and companion Stacey Ogden of Sullivan and Kent and wife Marissa Jones of Leasburg, like a daughter Marcella and husband Rollin Roberts of Brookhaven, Mississippi, six grandchildren; Dalton Turner, Devan Turner, Demi Turner, Noah Jones, Emma Jones and Brynn Jones, three special like a grandchild; Clayton, Abby and Wyatt Roberts, two brothers Charles and wife Goldie Jones of Lee Summit, Missouri and Randy Jones of Smithton, Missouri, mother-in-law Donna Jackson of Cuba, brother-in-law Rick and wife Karen Jackson of Cuba, best friend Paul and wife Georgia Hengstenberg of St. Louis, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 23, 2017 from 5:00 till 8:00 p.m. at the Mizell Funeral Home, 904 W Washington Street, Cuba. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 24, 2017 at the Mizell Funeral Home of Cuba with Pastor Jeff Snell officiating. Special music will be by Theresa Vaughn. Interment, prayers and full military honors will follow at the Oak Hill Cemetery, Cuba. Honored to serve as pall bearers are Ray Kampworth, Doug Bruning, Bobby Keen, Jack Demont, Mark Nilges and Ed Fritzmeyer. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Trinity Chapel or to the families choice of charity. The Mizell Funeral Home of Cuba is honored to be serving the Jones family.
