David L. Vanbenthuysen

David L. VanBenthuysen of Cuba, Missouri was born to the union of Gerald E. "Ted" and Gertrude E. (Haygood) VanBenthuysen on Wednesday, June 30, 1937 in Indianapolis, Indiana and left from this life surrounded by his family at his home on Friday, November 25, 2016 at the age of 79. David was united in marriage to Nikki Byard on March 16, 1957 in Indianapolis, Indiana and to this union three children were born David M., Dawn and Amy. David retired from AT&T in 1994, after 36 years of dedicated service. He was a member of Amazing Grace Community Church. He loved spending time with his family, living on the farm, being a husband, dad and papaw. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing and NASCAR. David is preceded in death by his parents Gerald E. "Ted" and Gertrude E. (Haygood) VanBenthuysen; one son David M. VanBenthuysen; two brothers Donald and Raymond VanBenthuysen. Those who are left to treasure his memory and to continue his legacy are his loving wife of 59 years Nikki VanBenthuysen of the home; two daughters Dawn and husband Sam Anderson of New Baden, Illinois, Amy and husband Steve Mitchell of Cuba, Missouri; eight grandchildren Kimmy and Matt VanBenthuysen, Nick, Emily and Justin Lovelace, Hannah, Molly and Colt Mitchell; four great-grandchildren Addison, Paige, Brayden and Avery; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and many friends. David's family would like to thank BJC Hospice and all of its caregivers, for their undivided attention and care. Memorial visitation will be held on Sunday, December 4, 2016 from 1-2 p.m. at Mizell Funeral Home 904 W. Washington St. Cuba, Missouri. Memorial service will be held on Sunday, December 4, 2016 2:00 p.m. at Mizell Funeral Home with Pastor Gary Mace, officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to Friends Helping Friends or Crawford County Foundation. The Mizell Funeral Home is honored to be serving the VanBenthuysen family.
