Darlene C. Cape of Cuba, Missouri was born Friday, May 24, 1935 at Borger, Texas to the union of William Silas and Clella Greenwood Hewkin and she left from this life on Thursday, June 28, 2018 at her home in Cuba at the age of 83 years. Darlene was united in marriage to James W. "Jim" Cape on February 24, 1953 at Steelville, Missouri and they are the proud parents of three sons; Alan, Randy and Scott. Darlene was part owner/operator of Jim's Motors, where she was the bookkeeper and the office manager. She had a lifetime of music contributions to Cuba, Steelville, Crawford County and many surrounding areas. Darlene played the piano for many churches, especially the Assembly of God Church of Steelville and Trinity Chapel of Cuba. She provided music for many community activities, Crawford County Fair Queen contest and other community shows. Darlene volunteered four years of her talent to help with the Crawford County R-II School concert choir. She provided music and helped coordinate the children's community shows "Land of Oz" and "Grand Little Ole Opry". Darlene was honored to produce and provide the music for the Cuba Murals fundraiser. Darlene had the honor and privilege to play the piano five years for the International Gideon Conventions in New Orleans, Kansas City, Ohio, Indiana and St. Louis. "I don't care who writes your laws, I care who writes your music because music does more to get to the hearts of man." Darlene's words. Darlene gave piano and singing lessons, in her home and at Jim's Motors, for many years, to many children and adults. In her spare time, Darlene loved taking care of her plants and gardening. Darlene was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, great aunt, great-great aunt, sister-in-law and friend of everyone. She will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her. Darlene is preceded in death by her parents William Silas and Clella Hewkin, six brothers; Oren ‘Buster", Homer, James "Jimmy", Don "Donnie", Lynn "Lenny", Rodney Wayne Hewkin, two sisters; Eloise Garms and Naomi and husband Walter Boll, grandson Chris Bell, sisters-in-law; Vera Hewkin, Carol Hewkin, June Hewkin, Shirley Hewkin, Ruth Hewkin and Leora Hewkin and other family and friends. Those who are left to treasure her memory and to continue her legacy are her loving husband of sixty-five years Jim Cape of the home, three sons; Alan and wife Gail Cape, Randy Cape and Scott and wife Genifer Cape all of Cuba, seven grandchildren; Jeremy and wife Melissa King of Eureka, Missouri, Lendsay Cape of Denver, Colorado, Courtney and husband Jason Meyer of Ferguson, Missouri, Casey and husband Nick Guzman of Denver, Colorado, Miranda and husband William Mills of Edgewater, Florida, Mallory Young and Cylas "Cy" Cape both of Cuba, twelve great grandchildren; Audrey, Chase, Ava, Emilia, Gavin, Mirabelle, Devin, Donovan, Kaetlyn, Cole, Mason and Luciana, one sister; Colleen and husband Glen Woolbright of Manchester, Missouri, sister-in-law Marilyn Hewkin of Cuba, brothers-in-law Jerry and wife Lonnie Cape of Cuba and Jay Garms of Steelville, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces, great-great nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation will be Thursday, July 5, 2018 from 4:00 till 8:00 pm at the Mizell Funeral Home, 904 W Washington Street, Cuba. Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 6, 2018 at the Mizell Funeral Home of Cuba with Terry Mahurin officiating. Special music will be "I'm Not Ashamed of the Gospel" by Lisa Lorraine, "Your Grace Still Amazes Me" by Sandy Mitchell, "The Potters Hand" by Joanie and Faith Ann and "I will Glory in The Cross". Interment and prayers will follow at the Fort Leonard Wood Veterans Cemetery, Waynesville, Missouri. Honored to serve as pallbearers are John Hewkin, Tommy Hewkin, Danny Hewkin, Mark Hewkin, Jeremy King and Cy Cape. Honorary pallbearers will be Chase, Gavin, Cole and Mason. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Cuba Free Will Baptist Church Youth Group, 707 W. Myrtle, Cuba in Darlene's memory. The Mizell Funeral Home of Cuba is honored to be serving Darlene's family.
