Courtney Ray Harris

Courtney Ray Harris of Cuba, Missouri was born Wednesday, September 13, 1922 at Cook Station, Missouri to the union of Daniel W. and Dollie (nee: Earls) Harris and left from this life on Saturday, June 29, 2013 at Cuba, Missouri at the age of 90 years. Courtney was united in marriage to Evelyn E. Tesreau at St. Louis, Missouri on June 26, 1943 and to this union three children were born Sharon, John and Sandy. Courtney spent twenty five years as a truck driver and retired in 1975 from Arkansas Best Motor Freight. After retirement Courtney became a farmer for the next fourteen years before moving in to town. He attended the First Baptist Church of Cuba and was a fifty two year member of the Cuba Masonic Lodge #312. He enjoyed fishing and hunting in his younger years and gardening and puzzles in his later years. "Governor" as he was called by some of his friends always enjoyed visiting with everyone he ever met. He was known for his story telling and ability to make everyone laugh and smile. Courtney was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, great-great grandfather, uncle, great uncle, cousin, brother-in-law and friend of everyone. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him. Courtney is preceded in death by his parents Daniel and Dollie Harris, one granddaughter Lana Wagner, one brother Albert Harris, one sister Imogene Gregory and other relatives and friends. Those who are left to treasure his memory and to continue his legacy is his loving wife of 70 years Evelyn Harris of the home, one son John and wife Barbara Harris of Belle, Missouri, two daughters Sharon and husband Rusty Draper of Cuba and Sandy and husband Michael Morice of Cuba, nine grandchildren Matt and wife Samantha Wagner, Nikki Jo and husband Josh Batchelder, Lonnie and wife Michelle Wagner, Cory Harris, Carl Harris, Kindra Dunning, Keith and wife Lindsay Morice, DeAnn and husband Mike Feidler and Jason Draper, nine great grandchildren; Devin, Drew, Nikki Paige, Jeff, Mary, Johnny, Blake, Lane and Avery, one great-great grandchild Ryan, two brothers Daniel Harris of Arizona and Arthur Harris of Albuquerque, New Mexico, two sisters Geneva and husband Dwayne Randolph of Plano, Texas and Jane Elkins of St. Joseph, Missouri, sister-in-law Jean and husband Frank Fries, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 2, 2013 from 10:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. at the Mizell Funeral Home, 904 W Washington, Cuba, Missouri. A masonic service will be held at the end of visitation by the Cuba Masonic Lodge #312. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at the Mizell Funeral Home of Cuba with Pastor Bob Knight officiating. Special music will be "The Old Rugged Cross", "Just As I Am" and "In the Garden". Honored to serve as pall bearers will be Keith Morice, Blake Bender, Cory Harris, Carl Harris, Lonnie Wagner and Matt Wagner and honorary pall bearers will be Devin Wagner, Jeff Harris and Johnny Harris. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cuba Senior Center in memory of Courtney. Interment and prayers will follow at the Meramec Hills Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri. The Mizell Funeral Home of Cuba is honored to be serving Courtney's family.
