Charles Thomas Wells, 69, of Cuba, passed away after a long courageous battle with cancer on Friday, May 16, 2025, in the comforting presence of his loving daughter’s home in Shiloh, Illinois.
On November 8, 1955, Charles was born to the union of Dempsey Wells & Jackie (Vincent) in Burkesville, Kentucky.
He was a graduate of Cuba High School.
Charles married the love of his life, Carolyn (Vandervoort) on November 25, 1983, in Steelville.
He worked for Chrysler and retired after 32 years of dedicated and hardworking service.
Charles was a huge sports fan and enjoyed watching all the games that he could. He was known for going to the gas station in the morning to get his coffee and his hopeful winning lottery ticket. Charles was a great storyteller and a tough political debater. He could always be counted on for a good laugh. Charles was also a self-made pitmaster and enjoyed barbequing and enjoying the outdoors going fishing and playing a good game of Texas hold’em. When the games were over, the lottery’s scratched and the grill was clean and cooling down, Charles loved retiring to enjoy a much needed and relaxing nap. Charles will be truly missed by his loving family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dempsey & Jackie Wells; brother, Roger Wells; sister, Margaret Crider; wife, Carolyn Wells and a daughter, Candice White.
Charles is survived by his loving daughter, Amanda Dobkins and husband Sean of Shiloh, Illinois; three grandchildren, Cameron Britt of Shiloh, Zachary Thurmond of St. Louis and El Dobkins of Shiloh; nieces; other relatives and many friends.
A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
