Charles L. Coffman

Charles L. Coffman of Cuba and formerly of Owensville was born in Bourbon, Missouri, on August 1, 1935, and passed away peacefully with his loving family around him on February 3, 2026, at the age of 90.

Charlie was born to Edgar Dillon Coffman and Grace Mae Miller Coffman. He was the fifth of twelve children, and the last of the five sons to survive.

Charlie graduated from Bourbon High School in 1953 and shortly thereafter joined the United States Marine Corps, where he proudly served his country until his Honorable Discharge in 1957.

In 1960, Charlie married Judith Cios in Bourbon, Missouri and six children were born. Charlie began his career as a press operator running a printing press at the Cuba Free Press in the 1960’s, later retiring from Custom Printing in Owensville, Missouri, after more than thirty years of service.

Charlie later married Rosemary Chitwood, and they enjoyed running their business, A-Z Storage, and traveling to Florida and other places before Rosemary’s health sidelined them. He was a loving and gentle caregiver to Rosemary, providing constant care to her until her death in 2019.

Charlie took pride in living independently at home; jumping in the car to run downtown on a whim, running his business and chatting with his customers, caring for his yard and chucking wood into his outside wood furnace until he was 89 years old. He painted the outside of his house when he was 87! He appreciated his good neighbors Dennis and Betty Koch.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Grace Miller Coffman Roberson, and his wife Rosemary Coffman; his brothers, Willard, Harold, Don, and Marvin; and his sisters Gerri Grueber and Terry Coffman; daughter-in-law Sharon Coffman.

He is survived by his children; Larry and his wife Takako Coffman, De Dee and her husband Bob Hamilton, Mark and his wife Evelyn Coffman, Rob and his wife Katie Coffman, Chris and his wife Peggy Coffman, Julie and her husband John Kirby, Scott Chitwood, Mark Chitwood, Sr., Kathy Young and her husband Wayne; his sisters Catherine Wagner, Louise Heck, Margaret Risenhoover, Donna Wissman, Wanda Starbeck and her husband Ron, sister-in-law Bobbie Coffman, and his former wife, Judy Cios Barnes.

Also surviving are his grandchildren; Dustin and Danica Coffman, Adam and Eric Swann, Bobbie Lee and Andrea Houseworth, Jesse Harrison, Joshua Coffman, Sarah Burroughs, Rachel and Emily Coffman, Loretta and Seth Coffman, Karlye Nunnally and Colin Jones, Carli Coffman and Danielle Hertzler, Isabelle and David Kirby, Christopher and Jacob Chitwood, Mark Chitwood, Jr. and Alexis Young.

He is survived by his great-grandchildren Ronan, Scarlett, Akina, Elina, Brynna, Brooklyn, Genevieve, Dante, Elijah, Demetri, Beckham, Sophia, Murphey, Cori, Malcolm, Vesper and Nova, and Brendan and Brooke.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 5, 2026, from 12:00 pm until the time of the service at 2:00 pm at Mizell Funeral Home & Crematory with Pastor Jerry Beers, officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at the Bourbon Cemetery in Bourbon, Missouri.

Honored to be pallbearers are Larry Coffman, Bob Hamilton, Mark Coffman, Rob Coffman, Chris Coffman and John Kirby. Honorary pallbearers are Scott Chitwood and Wayne Young.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Tunnel 2 Towers in memory of Charles L. Coffman, and may be left at Mizell Funeral Home & Crematory or mailed there to 904 W. Washington St. Cuba, MO 65453, or by going to their website @ T2T.org.

We would like to express our love and appreciation to Gale Staples for being such a good friend and helper to Dad, the irreplaceable staff at AmeriCare/Victorian Place for their outstanding care and devotion, to his friends at his dining table, Delmar and Juanita, the wonderful staff at Fresenius Kidney Care and Three Rivers Hospice for their love and support of our father in his final days and years.
