Brittany Nicole Stovall, 37, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away on September 30, 2026. She was born on March 8, 1989, in Rolla, Missouri, to Craig Stovall and Scheryl (Stovall) Barringer.
Brittany learned Braille at a young age and attended the Missouri School for the Blind, where she learned to live independently from an early age. That independence became one of the defining qualities of her life. After graduating from the Missouri School for the Blind in 2007, Brittany took another big step on her own, moving hours away from her family to Joplin to attend Missouri Southern State University. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology in 2012 and made Joplin her home.
Brittany never stopped using the skills she learned to help others. Even as an adult, she would Braille products for other people who were blind, helping make everyday things more accessible and allowing others to experience some of the same independence that meant so much to her.
Brittany worked at the Independent Living Center in Joplin as a Disability Advocate, a role she took very seriously and was deeply passionate about. She was a champion for the many consumers she served and worked to bring awareness to legislation affecting individuals with disabilities. Advocacy was much more than Brittany’s job—it was part of who she was.
Family was incredibly important to Brittany, and one of her greatest joys was being an aunt. She loved spending time with her nieces and nephews, spoiling them every chance she got, and especially loved having them over for sleepovers. Those nights together and the memories they created held a special place in her heart.
Brittany also adored her beloved dogs, Korona, Tequila, Mable, and Miles, who were an important part of her family and brought her so much companionship and joy.
An avid sports fan, Brittany loved college football, the NFL, and baseball. She was a huge Ohio State fan and proudly cheered on the Buckeyes. She also enjoyed watching Cubs games with her fiancé, Dustin, and the time they spent together sharing those games became part of the everyday moments she treasured.
Brittany will be remembered for her fierce independence, determination, and unwavering commitment to advocating for others. From learning to navigate the world independently at a young age, to moving hours away from her family for college, earning her degree, building a life and career in Joplin, and using her own experiences to make life better for others, Brittany lived with courage and purpose.
Above all, she will be remembered for how deeply she loved her family, her nieces and nephews, Dustin, her dogs, and the people whose lives she touched along the way.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Charles Lavern Lancaster and Phyllis Lancaster; her great-grandfathers, Raymond Michel and Dwight Stovall; and her great-grandmother, Lela Stovall.
She is survived by her parents, Craig Stovall and Jess Lindemann of Cuba, Missouri, and Scheryl Barringer and her husband, Robert Barringer, of Joplin, Missouri; her sisters, Kelsey Weber and her husband, James, of Webb City, Missouri, Jordan Priest and her husband, David, of Cuba, Missouri, and Alysia Cruz and her husband, Jose, of Belton, Texas;her nieces, Maddalyn Weber and Evelyn Weber, and her nephews, Owen Weber, Levi Priest, Blaine Priest, and Emilio Cruz; her great-grandmother, Patsy Michel of Owensville, Missouri; and her best friend and fiancé, Dustin Bushnell of Joplin, Missouri.
A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2026, from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. at Mizell Funeral Home & Crematory in Cuba, Missouri. A memorial service will take place at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at Mizell Funeral Home & Crematory, Cuba, Missouri.
