Betty Jean Wood of Cuba, Missouri was born December 8, 1941 at St. Louis, Missouri to the union of Meredeth Frances and Dorothy Ann (Nee: Griffith) Cissell and left from this life on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at Sullivan, Missouri at the age of 73 years. Betty was united in marriage to James Harold Wood on June 25, 1960 at St. Louis, Missouri and to this union two children were born Pamela and James. Betty worked for many years as a waitress for the Spare Rib in Steelville before moving to the Cuba area. She was the Montgomery Ward Lady, the Avon Lady and Betty and Jim owned and operated the Ozark Café located in Cuba during the 1980's. In 1996 Betty retired after spending nine years working for the Cuba Walmart. Betty was a true animal lover. She spoiled her two cats Maggie and Snickers and enjoyed going to the Cuba Animal Shelter to see all the other animals. Betty was a collector of everything, especially stuffed bears, angels and snow globes. In her younger years Betty spent many hours working outside in her flower garden, riding the motorcycle with Jim, cooking and collect every kitchen cooking gadget there was. Betty never left the house unless her makeup was perfect, jewelry was all on and she was dressed appropriately. For the last few years Betty only enjoyed traveling if it was to the casino. There she played the slots. What Betty truly enjoyed most in life was spending time with her family and friends. Betty was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, aunt, great aunt, cousin, sister-in-law and friend to everyone she ever met. She will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her. Betty is preceded in death by her parents Meredeth Frances and Dorothy Ann Cissell, husband James Harold Wood, two sisters Barbara Oliver and Mary Palermo, two brothers David and Kenneth Cissell and other relatives and friends. Those who are left to treasure her memory and to continue her legacy is her loving children; Pamela R. and husband Mike Click of Cuba and James David "Jamie" and wife Ruth Wood of Cuba, five grandchildren Grant Wood of Steelville, Garrett Wood of Owensville, Josh Walker of Texas, Nikki Walker of California and Megan Shaw of Owensville, one sister Kathy Bell of St. Charles, Missouri, five brothers-in-law Mariano "Pal" Palermo of St. Louis, Missouri, Rodney Oliver of High Ridge, Missouri, Clifford and wife Peggy Wood of Clayton, Missouri, Thomas and wife Jean Wood of St. Charles, Missouri and Elroy "Butch" and wife Rene Wood of Eureka, Missouri, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held Saturday, January 31, 2015 from 1:00 PM till 4:00 PM at the Mizell Funeral Home, 904 W Washington Street, Cuba, Missouri. Funeral service will be held at 4:00 PM Saturday, January 31, 2015 at the Mizell Funeral Home, 904 W Washington, Cuba, Missouri with Pastor Jerry Beers officiating. Special music will be "The Old Rugged Cross", "Go Rest High on that Mountain" and "Precious Memories". Memorial contributions may be made to the Cuba Animal Shelter in Betty's memory. In keeping with Betty's wishes she will be cremated following the funeral service. The Mizell Funeral Home of Cuba is honored to be serving the Wood family.
