Basil Hassler Jr.

September 8, 1927 — February 10, 2014

Basil Hassler, Jr. of Sullivan formerly of Leasburg, Missouri was born to the union of Basil and Nancy E. (Branson) Hassler on September 8, 1927 in Owensville, Missouri and left from this life on Monday, February 10, 2014 at Life Care Center in Sullivan, Missouri at the age of 86. Basil was united in marriage to Marie K. Lauth on September 6, 1947 and to this union four children were born Lawrence, Richard, Judy and Tynna. Basil retired in 1993 as a Foreman for West Contracting Company after many years of dedicated service. He was a longtime member of the Webster Groves Lodge #84 A.F. & A.M. and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 4307 Bourbon, MIssouri. His hobbies included fishing, riding ATV's, traveling, playing pool, keno and helping out at the Eagles Club. Basil is preceded in death by his parents; wife Marie K. (Lauth) Hassler; four brothers Arnold, Kenneth, Jerry and Maurice Hassler; one son-in-law Ralph Paul. Those who are left to treasure his memory and to continue his legacy are his four children Lawrence and wife Tricia Hassler of Union, Missouri, Richard and wife Amy Hassler, Judy Paul, Tynna and husband Ron Gallagher all of Leasburg, Missouri; six grandchildren Wade, Wendy, Michelle, Mandy, Crystal and Kathy; one brother Ron Hassler of Jefferson City, Missouri; one sister Margaret Rayfield of Piedmont, Missouri; one brother-in-law of Leroy Lauth of O'Fallon, Missouri; thirteen great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and many friends. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 5-8 p.m. at Mizell Funeral Home 904 W. Washington St. Cuba, Missouri. Masonic service will be conducted by Cuba Lodge #312 A.F. & A.M. at 6:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 13, 2014 11:00 a.m. at Mizell Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Lea Cemetery, Leasburg, Missouri. If desired, memorials would be appreciated to the American Cancer Society. The Mizell Funeral Home is honored to be serving the Hassler family.
