Alvina Mae Housewright

November 1, 1936 — October 20, 2022

Alvina Mae Housewright (nee: Turnbough) of Steelville, Missouri was born on Sunday, November 1, 1936, in Dillard, Missouri to the union of Leonard and Dorothy (Barr) Turnbough. She left from this life on Thursday, October 20, 2022, at Steelville Senior Living in Steelville, Missouri at the age of 85.


On April 21, 1956, in Rolla, Missouri, Alvina was married to Clifford Housewright. To this union four children were born, Roger, Joe, Linda, and Jeff.


Alvina was the oldest of eleven children and was a loving caregiver of her siblings. She was a diligent worker and started working at an early age for Cobblestone Lodge and Spare Rib Inn.

She also worked for Brown Shoe Company and Mid-America Shoe. Alvina then worked at Paramount Cap Factory in Bourbon, Missouri for many years until she finally retired.


Alvina was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard, and Dorothy (Barr) Turnbough; husband Clifford Housewright; two sisters, Barb Logan, and Arbell Chew; three brothers. Bill, Bob, and Mona Lee Turnbough; brothers in-law Wayne Mercer, Paul Plier, and LeRoy Chew; three sisters-in-law, Vivian (Neil) Prentice, Fern (June) Albert, and Mary Ann (Carl) Hughes; parents-in-law Jona and Eva Housewright.


Those who are left to treasure her memory and to continue her legacy are her four loving children, Roger (Donna) Housewright, Joe (Jennifer) Housewright and Linda (Rick) Branson all of Steelville, Jeff Housewright of Bourbon; daughter in-law Elaine Housewright of Bourbon; five sisters, Sue Piler, and Bonnie Mercer, of Springdale, Arkansas, Catherine Mercer, of Berryville, Arkansas and Wanda (James) Heads of Green Forest, Arkansas; one brother, Gary (Kathy) Turnbough of Bentonville, Arkansas; ten grandchildren Kasey Garrison, Jared (Brandi) Housewright, Ashley (Kip) Rouse, Daniel (Christy) Young, Christopher (Michelle) Young, Christina Ryan, Wyatt (Whitney) Verble, Lindsey Uhl, Carissa (Todd) Martin, and Jacob Housewright; twelve great-grandchildren Clara and Griffin Garrison, Waylon (Chasity), Whitley (Derek) and Wiley Housewright, Weston Uhl, Natalie Verble, Zander and Ayden Ryan, Addyson Young, Caleb Martin, and Holly Martin; one great-great-grandchild Blakleigh Richards; nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and many friends.


Visitation will be held on Monday, October 24, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at Mizell Funeral Home 904 W. Washington St. Cuba, Missouri.


Funeral Service will be held on Monday, October 24, 2022, 11:00 a.m. at Mizell Funeral Home with Pastor Jerry Beers officiating.


Interment will follow at Meramec Hills Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri.
