Lena Pearl Cummings

Lena Pearl Cummings of Sullivan formerly of Cuba and the Steelville area was born Wednesday, April 4, 1906 at Clemtown, West Virginia to the union of Osten W. and Rose (nee: Farance) Weaver and left from this life on Saturday, April 7, 2012 at Life Care Center in Sullivan, Missouri at the age of 106 years and 3 days. Lena was united in marriage to Otto Lloyd Cummings on February 27, 1926 at Brownstown, Indiana and they became the proud parents of Betta, Robert, Nora, Beverly, Catherine, Joy, Lura, Eileen, Albert and Ronald. Lena worked for 18 years at Brown Shoe Company in Steelville before retiring in 1969. She was known for her wonderful cooking and she baked amazing pies and bread. She was very unselfish and always took care of everyone, from family to neighbors. She enjoyed hunting, camping, playing solitaire with her morning coffee and could sew anything from clothing for her children to wedding dresses. What she enjoyed most was spending time with her family and friends. Lena was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, great-great-great grandmother, sister-in-law, aunt, great aunt, great-great aunt, great-great-great aunt and friend of many. She will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her. She is preceded in death by her parents Osten and Rose Weaver, husband Otto Cummings, one daughter Beverly Guthrie, three son-in-laws Ivan Umberger, Phil Guthrie and Vic Hawkins, one daughter-in-law Lea Cummings, six sisters, five brothers, two grandsons, one granddaughter, four great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren and other relatives and friends. Those who are left to treasure her memory and to continue her legacy are her children Betta Cassidy of Steelville, Robert "Bud" Cummings and friend Mary of Steelville, Nora Hawkins of Chandler, Oklahoma, Catherine "Katie" Umberger of Fairfax, South Dakota, Joy and husband Ron Crocker of Viburnum, Missouri, Lura "Tiny" and husband John Reeves of Cuba, Eileen and husband Danny Roberts of Bloomington, Illinois, Albert "Butch" Cummings of Houstonia, Missouri and Ronald and Brandy Cummings of Sullivan, Missouri, one sister-in-law Elsie Weaver of Steelville, thirty eight grandchildren, one hundred plus great grandchildren, almost a hundred great-great grandchildren, one great-great-great grandson, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces, great-great nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 11, 2012 from 5 till 8 pm at the Mizell Funeral Home, 904 W Washington, Cuba, Missouri. Funeral service 1:00 PM Thursday, April 12, 2012 at the Mizell Funeral Home of Cuba with Pastor Don Martin officiating. Special music will be "Amazing Grace" and "Mansion over the Hilltop". Honored to serve as pall bearers will be Terry Reeves, Osten Cassidy, James Graham, Chuck Guthrie, Rob Cummings and Robbie Jones. Interment and prayers will follow at the Steelville Cemetery, Steelville, Missouri. The Mizell Funeral Home is honored to be serving Lena's family.
