Barry Eugene Hazen

July 10, 1936 — January 13, 2021

Barry Eugene Hazen of Cuba, Missouri was born to the union of Melvin E. and Dorothy Hazen on Friday, July 10, 1936. He left from this life from complications of COVID, on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at Phelps Health in Rolla, Missouri at the age of 84 years.

Barry obtained the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer in the United States Navy. He retired as a Lithographer for Southeast Missourian. He also owned and operated Hazen Bird Farm in Gray Summit, Missouri for several years.

Barry enjoyed being outdoors, whether it was hunting, fishing, camping, riding horses, gardening or flying his model airplanes. He was awarded the National Archery Champion in 1961, as well as the Missouri State Archery Champion. He loved to play the guitar and banjo, collect antique irons and tinker with things. At the age of 60, Barry obtained his pilots license, he would later purchase and pilot his own plane. He will truly be missed, by all who knew and loved him.

Barry is preceded in death by his parents Melvin E. and Dorothy "Dottie" Hazen; first wife Charlotte (Grissom) Hazen.

Those who are left to treasure his memory and to continue his legacy are his loving wife Anita (Martines) Hazen of Cuba; one daughter Gayle Lynn and husband Bobby Brown of Blairsville, Georgia; two step-children Ron and wife Sandi Thomas of Stanford, Kentucky, Toni and husband Keith Beckett of Sullivan, Missouri; two grandchildren Madison Briner and Robert Grissom Briner; six step-grandchildren Cooper and Canon Beckett, Kevin Anderson, Samantha Terry, Cody Thomas and Lucas Ray; eight step-great-grandchildren; one niece Jonna May of Springfield, Missouri; one nephew Michael May of Van Buren, Missouri and a host of many friends.


A Private Graveside service with full military honors will be held at Kinder Cemetery, with Pastor Joe Ed Pederson, officiating.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, after the COVID pandemic is over.

If desired, memorials would be appreciated to St. Paul's Lutheran Church 730 Fleenor Rd. Cuba, Missouri 65453.
